Front Page News is a cornerstone in the Midtown neighborhood. I used to live in the old apartments next to Vickery's and Front Page News and still have fond memories of sneaking up there for a drink when I had a minute. The patio is what sets the restaurant apart. It resembles a lush garden from New Orleans. Having revisited lately I had the crawfish etouffee and topped it off with the house made brownie and ice cream. The food was excellent and priced reasonably. Get an extra spicy Bloody Mary to complete the experience.

The Gallery is the most conveniently located mall to public transportation in the Philadelphia area. Places like the Gap, New York & Co, Lane Bryant, SunCoast, Old Navy, Claires etc etc, are the same as any mall anywhere. The stores are all clean...the worst part is the food court's never bussed. But there are a hell of a lot of restaurants in there--and only TWO fried chicken places. Yes it has a Kmart, god for-fuckn-bid someone be able to by their stuff cheap. But omg there's black people and working class people shopping there so it MUST be ghetto.. Ghetto being the hip liberal code word for "black". One bonus though is the fact that the piped in mall music often plays new wave classics. I lol everytime I hear erasure.

"Shot through the heart and you're to blame, You give love a bad name." Ah, the 80's....whether you experienced them or not *ahem*, you know the music, you know the fashion. And you can experience it all again (or for the first time) at The Cat Club on Thursday nights at 1984. I remember 1984 well....Olympics in LA, jelly shoes, charm bracelets....well, you won't find those here (or maybe you might - I did see a drag queen sporting some moves that could've qualified him for some sort of gymnastic routine!!), but you will find a lot of people pretending they knew what the 80's were and dancing to the tunes of the day. The great thing about this club is the music - there are two rooms, one room being more pop centric, the other more dance/emo centric (Depeche Mode, Bauhaus, etc). They really pack people in though, and it can get a bit uncomfortable. And the crowd can be a bit hit or miss....but overall I'd probably go back here only to rock out to 80's music. Price is reasonable for entrance....not sure about drink prices as I didn't have any...but my guess is they're no 1984 prices....so expect regular SF expenses. Another plus to this - there's a bacon hot dog cart right outside of the club....Relive the 80's AND get your greasy grub on! A good night for most. ;-)
