I've only been to Mayes at night time. The DJ does a really good job with playing Top 40 music, as well as little old school music from a variety of genre's. The drinks can be a bit watered down and it can get a bit hot in there when the place is crowded, but it is a fun place to go.

I've been here twice now and both times, I enjoyed myself. (Note: I've only been here on Sundays..don't know what they do the other nights) It's more deserving of 3 and a 1/2 stars, but here I am giving it 3. The place itself is cool and has definite potential. There is an outdoor patio with a bar and photo area set up. That's right.. all the hip kids can have their photos taken here. A lot of people seem to congregate here in the back early in the night. Inside, there is an ample sized dancefloor and a cabana/gazebo..don't know what ya call it.. seating area in the corner. It's quite nice and spacious. Instead of the typical red candle holders, they went with blue.. so there's a relaxing blue hue throughout the place. The bathrooms are also clean and new looking, for those who care. The DJs I've encountered on Sunday were both good. One played electro (all instrumental) type stuff and the other played electro mixed with some hip hop and current hits. The music was good and there was plenty of room to dance since everyone was outside. Ha. Okay, what sucks about this place is the parking. Street parking is VERY hard to come by in this area and valet is 7 bucks. I'm el cheapo, so I prefer to scour til I find something. Be careful though.. this isn't the greatest area to be walking around in late at night ladies. Second sucko point (star #2 deducted) is the turnout. I guess this place hasn't really caught on with the kids yet because the turnout is subpar. More and more people arrived as the night wore on, but they all went straight outside leaving the dancefloor empty and the DJ lonely. Granted, it's a Sunday night, but c'mon.. that's no excuse not to shake it! ***UPDATE 4/11/08*** How could I have forgotten to update this? I came back here a month or so ago with a friend who loves to dance just as much as I do. Again, the parking was atrocious. We must have driven around for nearly an hour. Then we had to walk block upon block in the freezing cold to get to Play. At that point, no matter how terrible it was, we were determined to stay. At first, it was the same old, same old. The turnout was poor and to add insult to injury, the first DJ wasn't really doing it for me. By midnight, I was ready to brave the cold and head down to the Beauty Bar, but my friend wanted to give it another couple of songs. Thank god we did because a new DJ came on and was absolutely amazing!! I haven't had that much fun in a long time. The dancefloor was suddenly packed with people and everyone was having a great time. We stayed until the bitter end. They even kept the party going past 2am because everyone was having such a good time (much to the chagrin of the bouncer who wanted us out). So here's the catch: if you're coming here, it's best to arrive late and be prepared to party til the end. If you can't stay out til 2am, forget it. This is the best place to come on a 3-day weekend. It's low-key and everyone (especially the girls) just wanna have fun!

Ugh! I've been here a couple of times, sad to say. The crowd is corny, and so is the DJ, or playlist, or whatever they have. I have blocked this place from my memory, so it's hard to remember for the moment. The drinks are weak, whatever I had to pay at the door was too much...Oh, and if u like hip-hop/reggae, avoid this spot. I think it operates under the false pretense of being a hip-hop spot, but it ended up being a bachata/reggaeton fest :(
