by Amanda H. on We started visiting PE when it was on Harrison. The primary attraction that drew us to PE was the various theme rooms, where you could live out your fantasies (i.e. jail scene, doctor scene, cemetery scene, etc) the props were provided, you just brought extras to make it more "real". Now, PE took over a run down stripper club in the tenderloin. Yes, the tenderloin. So if you feel like going to PE dressed for the occasion, you might want to be dropped off at the front door and not walk around in that neighborhood. There are no more "theme" rooms. It's all VERY generic and very OPEN meaning, good luck finding any area/room that has a tad bit of privacy. Most of the rooms no longer have chains to stop people from entering your "scene". The bathroom was interesting ... I only went into the restroom for women and it smelt like the restroom for men. The restroom size was designed to meet the specifications required for handicapped code (at least that is how it appeared to me) but it was modified and there are now 2 toilets in there with an accordion folding divider between the commodes. Fortunately you can lock the door and have the restroom to yourself. The restrooms are right at the entrance of the building and if someone takes a dump, the stench lingers into the hallway and club. PE no longer provides safe sex supplies. No condoms, dental dams or lube lying around or at the front desk to grab. Make sure to bring your own because the rules still say condoms required for penetration (not oral). ***Update**** Contacted management at PE with my concern of safety supplies and was told they provide them "and the new location is being ran just as it was on Otis Street" and if we wanted anything, all we needed to do was ask. However, we did not see any supplies - anywhere - not even at the front desk. As an adult entertainment facility it would seem to me that some people may not take the time to go hunt down an employee to find safety supplies once a playmate is found. Further, while visiting Otis street, on several occasions we saw various couples playing without protection. I thought this was prohibited because I used to see employees walking around with flash lights ensuring safety supplies were being used. However, that was not the case towards the close of business on Otis street. The employees were very lax and appeared more interested in their social hour versus ensuring the clientele was obeying the rules. Point is, make sure to ask for safety supplies upon entry. Again, all of the rooms have the same theme. Same chairs, same everything. So it's very generic. Look at the picture on Rateclub they posted of the general room. All furniture looks like this. We used to enjoy going to PE and would fantasize about it at home. Now we only have memories.
by Julia N. on Cielo - tied with Sullivan Room - is my favourite club currently in operation. They have consistently excellent DJs playing a good variety of electronic music, though they do focus mostly on house. The sound system is the best anywhere - hands down. While the club is pretty tiny, and the main dance floor even tinier, the decor and atmosphere are excellent, and there are several stalls in the well-stocked ladies room. There's a fair amount of seating too if you want a loungey table or simply to take a break from dancing on the bench. The drinks and cover are pricey, but it goes with the high quality setting, so I can't truly complain. Sadly, there are some of those overly trendy non-dancing types who stand smack-dab in the middle of the dance floor in too-high heels, inhibiting those who actually want to dance, whacking their unfortunate neighbours with their ginormous hobo bags, and occasionally spilling their overpriced cocktails on the aforementioned bystanders. I'm not a fan of their menfolk, either. Fortunately, these people are a minority, and the rest of the crowd is cool, laid-back, diverse, and very into the music. I do not have the problem here I have at many other clubs - namely annoying men grinding with me without indicating interest or asking to dance first. Yes, people try to (and do) pick up here, but it's generally done in a courteous manner. I love that on any night, I can come with friends or alone and find fun people to dance with - of any sex/orientation. I've made several friends here. Note: if it's busy, they WILL make you wait outside, even when you're on the guest list. While annoying, I actually appreciate the policy because it keeps the club from becoming overly crowded, which is far worse a situation.
by Carmen Ritchotte on This is a good ass venue. I loved all the shows that I've seen here. I saw Diplo and I danced the whole time, without spilling my drink or bumping into too many people, and I saw Jamie Lidell and was actually able to get to the front of the stage. Nice! It's intimate, but definitely still a venue, so you don't feel like you're in the back room at your cousin's house.
