by Denita Vanderschel on Two of my favorite things - outdoors and boats! Kill two birds with one stone by dining and drinking on the water. Several boats tethered together, there is ample room for seating if you get there earlier as this place gets packed. I believe it's the main boat that has the kitchen which is open and you can see what's going on. It's help yourself here. Pretty crowded even on a week night and how can you blame it - it's outside, summer and water :D A decent mix of tourists, locals and after work crowd - some in dress clothing, some in ridiculous casual garbs. Liked the back area of the boat, small club like. Found it hard to find the bathrooms the first time around, it was down steps and signage to me wasn't obvious. I'd love to come back here again!
by Rochelle Sprauve on For whatever reason, when it snows, I somehow end up at Johnny Brenda's. And for whatever reason, I am always disappointed. The bar is fine. I am not complaining about the bar. I am objecting to the food. Just after the recent winter storm, all I wanted was a nice steaming bowl of soup. I thought I was on the right track when I ordered the chicken noodle. For a $7 bowl of soup, I figured I was getting something good. I was so wrong. What I arrived at the table was a shallow bowl of almost no flavor chicken broth with some floating gray chicken. Sure there were some tasty carrots. Yes, there were well cooked egg noodles. But overall is was tasteless. Maybe the biggest ripoff on pub record. My husband had the Fishtown Stew, which he reported was super-spicy. The problem? When he asked the waitress for a rundown of what was in the soup, the offending peppers were never mentioned. My advice? Eat at New Acropolis across the street for a third of the price and make your way over Frankford and to JB's for the bar (only).
by Susan S. on Pricey, but fun bowling. Come on a weeknight (Monday I think) when there is a set price and blacklight bowling! For the amateur or serious bowler, your crowd will not be disappointed. Don't be afraid to reenact moments from Grease 2. The bar food suffices. The beer flows. The competition will get the best of you!
