What can I say about Deep on Sundays at Vanguard? Well let me tell you that Marques Wyatt (resident deejay/originator/promoter) has made a strong following with a 6 year track record. C'mon, for a Sunday?!?!? That has to be good. Ever since they moved from their old location at 1650 Schrader, I believe that they have attracted a larger crowd due to venue size and more ample parking. Deep brings some of the best dancers to the floor: from salsa, house steppers, b-boys/girls and funk dancers. Everyone there has the same thing in mind, just letting it all go and dancing to some really good house music. Marques brings in some great talent as well. Names like Miguel Migs, Doc Martin, Louie Vega, Mark Grant, and of course Mark Farina come through with their expertise and knowledge to excite the loyal crowd. If you're ever up to just dancing it away like a "Flash Dance" film or if you want to see "Who Got Served", come check it out. Remember to bring your dancing shoes because you're feet will take over and start to move with the beat. Also keep in mind that they go to 4am, so try not to get ahead of yourself if you work the next day, and that you will enjoy this experience called Deep. See ya there. PS. Don't confuse Deep at Vanguard with the club formerly called Deep on Vine. Different scene, different crowd, different vibe.

Don't expect this to be as cool as the original Buddha Bar in Paris... though they do have a humongous buddha as the focal point of the place and the DJ is playing a good deal of house and trance tracks. The decor and interior are pretty cool (incl a very neat smoking room that looks like it's straight out of some cool music video) but that's where the coolness stops. This is right along the lines of most of the obnoxious Meatpacking bars/clubs that pretend it's super exclusive and will give people a hard time to get in. Once you get inside, you realize it isn't all that and wonder why there are so many people waiting outside begging the bouncer to let them in. Drinks are overpriced and the service is snobby; the crowd was unimpressive, esp the tacky couple sitting next to us drawing all sorts of disapproving stares from pretty much everyone that was in the vicinity. Not sure if I'll be back here... I think the place has potential but not sure if it's worth the effort.
