by Nicole G. on Walking into Harlot feels like walking into the parlor of a goth beauty queen from a Tim Burton movie. The walls are black and hung with lush naked velvet bodies in lustrous wooden frames. The chairs have been covered with cow hide and paired with dark leather love seats. Moody lights hang from above at provocative angles and cast a glow on strange fronds and flowers. Going to Harlot makes me want to wear my corset. Three reasons I don't: 1. The crowd is unpredictably fickle. You never know whether you're going to get corporate or indie types. 2. Upon arrival, you will quite possibly realize it's closed. 3. There is a slight chance the bartender will look better in her corset than you do.
by Ed Bristow on The food's boring and non-offensive and the drinks are generally nice and strong. Go to Trudy's if you like staring at sorostitutes. (Trudy's is where all the folks who populate The Library bar pre-game it.) I'd give 'em only one star, but they get an extra one just because the drinks are really good.
by Jonathan C. on During the week (Sun-Thur) there is a $15 drink minimum, but no cover. The jazz is pretty good. The venue is small, but intimate and the sound is good. $12 for a Beefeater martini (and the olives are excellent) is fair. Sets at 9, 11 and 12.30. I avoid it on the weekends (big cover, and it's not really better than the weeknights) but during the week, it's a nice night out. Definitely a good date. I was there tonight, and they were recording a live CD, so the band was on their game, it was some spectacular music.
