its rateclubs best practice really is to try a place multiple times before writing a review... yeah, i like blakes.. theres never a cover and always a crowd. the drag shows are always fun and i always have a good time with my friends. the layout of the bar is pretty nice and their drinks are cheap and strong!!..which is very important. occasionally you may even get some free shots on a slow night like tuesday..lol the drag shows are always the best on the weekends..but its so crowded you cant even move sometimes. no complaints..

Wednesday night...what to do?? We're goin to Vanguard to get our Malfunktion on at FUNKTION. Every wed here they have a drum n bass night. Ive wanted to come for a while now, so there was some anticipation to come. There was parking on the property that seemed the only thing possible for $10. It wasnt horrible if you split it with people in your group. It was $5 cover before midnight being on a guestlist which I thought was great considreing guestlists close 10-11pm. People talk about the great soundsystem this place has, and they were right...BASS that blows your clothes off BASS for sure. the place was pretty huge comparable to avalon or spundae without upstairs. The layout was pretty open with leather couches surrounding the main floor, which seemed nice. Bathrooms were accesible. And alot of these clubs get really hot and stuffy, but they kept it comfortable in the main room, they have a smaller room for other dj's which the soundsystem was horrible, (blown speaker), they didnt spare no air conditioning in there, but it had its own bar which was understaffed. Drinks were too pricey for a wed, like avalon $10 which i think is a rip off. $5 evian! ;( I gave this place 4 stars because the soundsystem, the couches, and the use of air conditioning. I will probably be going back, ideally on a house music night.

Don't expect this to be as cool as the original Buddha Bar in Paris... though they do have a humongous buddha as the focal point of the place and the DJ is playing a good deal of house and trance tracks. The decor and interior are pretty cool (incl a very neat smoking room that looks like it's straight out of some cool music video) but that's where the coolness stops. This is right along the lines of most of the obnoxious Meatpacking bars/clubs that pretend it's super exclusive and will give people a hard time to get in. Once you get inside, you realize it isn't all that and wonder why there are so many people waiting outside begging the bouncer to let them in. Drinks are overpriced and the service is snobby; the crowd was unimpressive, esp the tacky couple sitting next to us drawing all sorts of disapproving stares from pretty much everyone that was in the vicinity. Not sure if I'll be back here... I think the place has potential but not sure if it's worth the effort.
