by Margherita Minerva on Went here last night (a Friday) and loved it. Technically it was not "Boom Boom Room" because it wasn't in nightclub mode. It was in cocktail lounge mode which our waitress referred to as just "The 18th Floor." (Our waitress told us they usually are open as a lounge until 9, then close until 10 and reopen as a nightclub, but that summer they were closed as a nightclub and therefore had extended the lounge hours until 10.) The decor was kinda like Metropolis meets the Wizard of Oz (if the Emerald City were done in golds, that is). Add in a little Barbarella, and The Jetsons for good measure. I absolutely loved it. It was the most amazing view I have ever seen in the city. Let me say that again: IT WAS THE MOST AMAZING VIEW I HAVE EVER SEEN IN THE CITY. It would have made a very romantic date spot. Date and I each had a cocktail. He had a 'rita and I had a signature cocktail called "I Kissed a Girl." The were both just okay. But then we ordered strawberries which we saw some others enjoying - fresh sliced strawberries with real whipped cream and a crystalized sugar lattice dome covering the stemmed glass they were served in. Truly yummy and perfect. Bill was about $65, but the view was worth it - I swear. Loved the Dante-on-acid plasma screen art in the elevator. But how did I miss the much talked about bathrooms? Shame on us! Server was model-gorgeous and aloof at first, then turned normal and sweet once we befriended her. Crowd was mixed and probably not cool enough for the surroundings. I was surprised there was no dress code (my date had on jeans... we went right in). We left only because they were closing. I'd love to go back.
by Nell Riseden on I wish there were a lower rating than 1 star. Went for the first time last night and never coming back. This place was ridiculous. The Good I really want to say something nice. Nope. The Bad Long line. $30 cover. Even with a new SF police commissioner, the Tenderloin is way raw. This ain't the quasi-nice Tendernob. Bad top 40 music. The Ugly Trashy, trashy crowd. And sketchy. They need metal detectors at the door. Way overpriced drinks. Shots in dixie cups. Classy. A-hole, power trip doormen (they called the cops on my friends and tried to get them arrested for merely trying to join us in line)

by Joel A. on You need to check out David Harness' party on Sunday nights -- the appropriately titled Super Soul Sundayz. David is always serving up the best uplifting house music. I swear, I feel like I'm at church because all I want to do raise my arms and holler, "Hallelujah! I'm in the house that Jack built!"
