It's been a long time since I've been as impressed by the decor and ambiance of a restaurant as I was at One Midtown Kitchen. The velvet drapes at the entrance make the gorgeous room behind them into a wonderful surprise. The lighting is perfect, tables well situated, and the view of the Atlanta skyline is pretty breathtaking. Service was beyond great, with Bob at the door introducing himself and remembering our names throughout dinner. Our waitress was full of recommendations and details about the food. They're offering a pretty great deal right now: $20 for two courses, $30 for three. I started with the goat cheese appetizer which was heavier than expected. I'd recommend this if you get a soup or a lighter appetizer to accompany it. My salmon was great and I loved the apple/leek combination that was served alongside. The fried apples brought the perfect amount of sweet to the dish. I liked how their wine list was organized and appreciated that they had some more inexpensive varieties. While I definitely enjoyed my meal here, I'm reserving that 5th star for the times I look forward to returning.

I'm truly torn here. Do I review based on the quality and caliber of the performances I've experienced here or do I base it on the establishment itself? The fact is, there is nothing particularly great about Webster Hall. It's dirty, it's over priced and it is always packed to the point that the floor is bowing beneath you. Sound quality isn't particularly good, they always pump way too much smoke into the room and the ventilation is poor at best. But, then there is the never ending list of acts that take the stage. My two favorite shows were the Flaming Lips and Fountains of Wayne. Any time you get to see larger name acts in a small location it's always going to be more enjoyable, and while those are just my two picks there is no denying the fact that their playbill is infinitely longer than anything I could list out here. Also, you aren't going to go broke buying tickets, but maybe that accounts for the establishments poor upkeep. So I guess it evens out here. You get to see some bigger name players at a lower price because you're going to get ripped off on drinks and possibly spend an hour listening to Charlie Browns teacher yelling at you through the speakers. Alright, maybe that's a little bit overly dramatic, but this location is still definitely questionable at best.

Update #2: Back to 5 stars. Ask for Sunwoo to spin every night. - Update: I still love it, but every time we go, the music either starts great and turns bad, or starts bad and turns great. Down with happy house. - They did a great job with the design - modern and organic with nice use of wood and soft flowy lines. Also like the viking cavemanish ottomon seats. Very comfy. And great djs, which the other new downtown bars seem to lack. They only had a few wines by the glass so far, but they were nice picks. Can't wait for the nibbles menu and official opening!
