I love this place!! Its a little hole in the wall on the outside but inside has such personality...the service and company is great, and the drinks are so reasonable! Everyone there is so nice..i go there after work sometimes, or to watch a game every once in a while. Great place!

One of my requirements for choosing a place to live is a decent neighborhood bar. Now, I would generally only give this place 4 stars, but I've tacked on one of the leftover stars that Ten Stone wasn't worthy of. I would say this is hands down the best bar in my neighborhood, and have contemplated wearing my slippers there on several occasions. I recently had guests from NYC and we had to pick up another friend at the airport at 5 AM (I should probably reevaluate my friendship with said airport guest...), so didn't want to stray too far. At a loss for what to do, I took them to Grace. I wasn't going to try to out glam Manhattan or prove that we had swank in our town, I was just going to show them what, for me, makes Philly Philly. Shortly after arriving, the bartender came over to answer some questions about what was on tap, and a few moments later he was telling us stories about doing acid in Maryland in the 80s. YES. This is what I pay my tax dollars for (that doesn't even make sense. I know. Continue.). The beer on tap is great, and like another reviewer mentioned, it's unique. Not just generic light beer and other miscellanous, uncreative crap brews. In fact, he described one of the things on tap as "if someone walked into Nodding Head and asked for a Miller lite, this is what they'd serve them instead." Excellent. We got some chicken fingers and fries to munch on. They were yummy; nothing extraordinary. Portion sizes were good and the whole table was satisfied. I love the layout of Grace. I love the beer. I love the people who work there. I can understand why people contest the "best bar in Philly" award entirely. But I think in a lot of ways, that place embodies Philadelphia. It feels familiar whether you've been there once or a thousand times. As such, I vow to wear my slippers there at least once before the end of winter. I really don't like having to take them off.

From the moment we rolled in until we left it was like family. My boyfriend took me there last night for my birthday and I let him pick our entrees and drinks since I suck at that. Too many choices freaks me out. So as usual he chose wonderfully. We did the ? course tasting and he ordered me a krafe of Saki; excellent job. Around the 7th plate i was getting really stuffed just as these 2 gentlemen walked by with ciggs in hand. I said boy that looks good. Well we went outside with those dudes and had a really great convo and a nice break from all the food. When we got back to our table d gentleman sent over 2 glasses of champagne to us. Talk about a lucky night! Shortly the pasteries started.. I can't even go into how many we got.. ok we knew the pastery chef. Our waiters were professional and friendly. Its no wonder Morimoto is reknown. BTW. love the black moving sculpture when you first walk in also loved d cool flat rocks in the bathroom where it says dry.. took a little one to remember d night!

I've meant to go to the Improv and actually went there back when I was still a tourist in '88 to get a Sweatshirt. Club is pretty spacious and unlike Laugh Factory, they don't clog you up around all the tables. There is some breathing room here! Beer/Drink selection is definitely better than the Laugh Factory with 12 bottled beer choices available. But what about drafts? Be careful! They list on the drink menu you can get a Sierra Nevada draft for five bucks but they don't do that anymore! Instead they try to get you to buy a 23 ounce brew in a 'souvenir' pilsner glass for $13.50! Ouch! And why do they have Widmer and Newcastle on draft in the bar but don't offer it in the club venue? They also stick the gratuity on the bill. Which I always hate because what if the service wasn't any good? Or what if it was really good and you really want to tip the wait staff well. Yea, I know you could always slip a couple more bills in there but when I get a gratuity charge automatically added, I tend to not do that. There is a decent food menu, which I didn't try because I had eaten earlier but one of the people at my table ordered the wings and said they were very salty. Oh, goodie! Come to the Improv and get free high blood pressure! Of course, you're really coming for the acts and just like most of the major clubs in town you're going to get A-list headliners you've actually heard of along with the theme nights like College Night, Jewish Night, etc. Definitely a better club than Laugh Factory but not as good as IO West or Ice House.
