Had some great times here! I did get a little lost going from one room to the other but it was all worth it! As I'm looking for my crew I found a room full of strippers- hella random, but entertaining never the less. Very diverse crowd- which I'm a huge fan of! And the pizza (if they still serve it, was just what I needed at 4am).

Went for Brits birthday party, saw some circus stuff but got played at the door because I was dressed in Hickey Freeman (never outdress the doorman) but the line was great! Alessandra Ambrosia was right behind me, saw mad hotties (which is the only reason I leave my place) if your in the area I would definitely suggest WALKING BY and star gaze.

Recommended to me by a dear friend who lives near Sugar Cafe and had checked it out the day they opened and loved it. She was enamored by the swank euro-style, all-things-to-all-people hours and offerings, with a pretty ingenious design where the mirrored wall behind the bar displays coffee makings during the day and boom, 5 pm, it slides across to expose back-lit bottles of grown-up beverages. So I was intrigued, my interest was piqued, I couldn't stand that there was a new place I hadn't yet patronized! **side note** I love this town even though it's a big city in training and can get sleepy at times, because you run into people--maybe you haven't seen them in years, maybe you've only seen pictures of them on rateclub--but you run into people going about your daily activities and even if you're having a shit day or are preoccupied, it feels like you are surrounded by a community of friends. It is something I am so grateful for and try never to take for granted. So I roll into Sugar Cafe to see DJ ratecluber had secured us a fireside spot. Nice! I like the decor already. Good lighting, brown and creme leather-like furniture, nice seating arrangements. Across from us is a handsome hirsute gentleman--is he just enjoying a solo post-work cocktail? Why no! In comes a whirling dervish of a beauty (Jennifer R., in case that wasn't obvious), to meet said gentleman--now he looks happy. And wow, it's date central, in the back corner a tall fella sits alone at a table scanning the passersby out the floor-to-ceiling windows. In she comes, formal hand shake, nice to meet you! (meaning, "Nice to meet you in person after exchanging witty, titillating banter on http://match.comfor a month!"). Well, someone only put up their good pictures from several years back, b/c they left while their drinks were still full... But back to us!! A now four-top of rateclubers, enjoying cocktails, wine and cheese, all in the wrong order and WAY sparse in terms of choices, as Jennifer noted, but quite tasty. I'm enjoying the euro feel except for one painful, for this wino anyway, realization that not only do they only have a single (1) red wine, but that we extinguished their supply in one sitting and two trips to the basement or wherever did not produce more. HUH?! I know they literally just opened last Friday, but when I have a housewarming party, I stock up! How do you not have more wine? Luckily i was in a good mood and my rubber arm is easily twisted to drink martinis instead. These came out in ginormous glasses and went down smoothly, but they must have really needed the glass wear for other patrons, b/c they kept coming to come take them away! Here's the deal: unless it is 1:59 a.m. and I am acting like a belligerent asshole that doesn't want to hear about last call (this never happens of course, just par example) , there is no reason to be pulling half-full drinks out of my hot little hands!! Whew, even writing that gives me high blood pressure. It's just rude, and weird! My other gripe from an otherwise positive experience was that they changed servers on us halfway through the evening--that is, we lost our server (dang cute, though, I should add, like a little 60s kitten!) and she was never really replaced by anyone that wanted to deal with us. Did I mention that the place was mostly empty? I'm guessing this is all a function of them being open for like two minutes and they'll work out the kinks. Which I hope they do, b/c it would be a shame to spend all that money on a fancy designer and interior (but apparently not on wine! sorry, had to get in one last dig!) and close in 6 months. So two stars for the first impression (I'll be back in a month or so when they settle in) and one star for the company of sweet ratecluber kids that make this community the home of my heart.
