While exploring the city we stumbled upon National Mechanics, which we had already heard good things about. We were just there for a couple drinks but it is definitely a cool, hip, loud place. Bartenders were very friendly and we loved the feel of the place. Will definitely check it out for food sometime.

UPDATE 6-29-07 THURSDAY So yeah, I returned for more. But how can you help it when Vessel has the likes of Chicago all stars Greenskeepers playing LIVE and James Curd spinning?! 5 stars for the show & djs. 5 stars for the crowd who showed up for the show. (See below)* 5 stars for the super friendly and hawt door guy and coat check. 5 stars for the beautiful space and offering of another night time vibe option in SF. No, not everyone wants the same type of scene every frickin time they go out. No, not everyone wants to listen to the same type of music, taste the same type of food, have the same type of friends, do the same type of activities, read the same type of books.. all ... of... the... time. Oops, almost forgot: -1 star for the faux lessies gyrating on the tables and making out desperate for attention. Honestly? Pathetic. +1 star for the crowd* that couldn't be bothered. --- 6/1/07 3 I can only speak for Thursday night, the one and likely last time I have been and ever will be here. Music -- Upbeat house music. Super nice DJ. He played Samantha James! Holla! I mean, Rise! "Crowd" (and I use that term liberally) -- dancing, unpretentious and hella HELLA young (early to mid 20s). Space -- Can we say Ultra Lounge? Very pretty, subterranean, ample space. Drinks -- Pricey. Bathrooms -- I can't get with the program. I really REALLY dislike the unisex thing. Staff (in order of appearance) -- 1. Doorman -- nice. 2. Server -- seemed terribly uncomfortable and unhappy to be there (lucky us!). 3. Bartender -- Also unhappy to be there. Probably the unfriendliest bartender I've ever encountered IN MY LIFE. If you like sourpusses you'll like Vessel.
