I've only been to Star Bar a couple of times (sorry, I'm not a music genius) on Monday nights for their comedy open mike. When I first went, there were about 20 people in the audience (not including the comics). When I went last Monday, there were about 60 people in the audience. Looks like open mike at Star Bar is blowing up! I've been served by two bartenders who were equally cool although I do kind of favor the one with the big curly afro (sue me, I like big curly afros, especially on white guys). On these nights, I haven't been drinking alcohol and sometimes a bartender will diss you when you're not drinking beer or liquor but these guys didn't do that (but I did tip them as if I'd gotten an alcoholic beverage - service is service). Parking is plentiful and free on Monday nights (other nights someone will harass you for money, especially on the weekends). As of this writing there is no cover for the Monday open mike. The only downside is the smoke. I don't smoke, but it seemed like everyone else in the building did. I left about an hour and a half and felt like I'd probably sacrificed a third of a lung in there. In summary, it's a good vibe and a good intimate venue for comedy, so check it out!

For a place that is rated 4 stars with100-plus reviews, I would be lying if I didn't say that I was a bit disappointed by my meal here tonight. The service was great considering we had a party of 12, so that part of the night was solid. I also appreciated the fact that they separated all of our checks for us, which is rare for many restaurants to do. 5 stars for service and courtesy. However, in terms of the food, lets just say that I was expecting a bit more. Started with the fried green tomatoes, which is pretty good, but make sure you like goat cheese. It was fried very well and paired with a tomato based sauce-- I would prefer a bit more salt in that dish next time to add flavor. The fried chicken seems to be the most talked about dish throughout all the reviews, and it was not that great. Although my dish was fried well, it was a bit over-fried, and a few of my friends had pieces that were definitely burnt/extremely dry. However, my chicken was pretty moist on the inside, which was good, but the batter/skin left much more to be desired. There was a good effort to spice and season the chicken, but it was lacking in salt and tasted a bit bland. Actually, really bland. The mashed potatoes were pretty solid, and the string beans were fine. I think it was $17 for the dish. Might come back here again, but will probably try some other places first. 5 stars for service, 2.5 stars for the main course, 3-3.5 stars overall.
