I am not impressed with Fado any more. The food and drinks are both very expensive, and are very mediocre. If you're only drinking beer, it's maybe a decent place to go. But the bartenders don't make very good cocktails - whatever you do, don't get a margarita. Our bill for only a light appetizer and a couple of drinks (for 3 of us) was $100. We went to Taco Mac a few nights later and ate AND drank twice as much for $60.

What to say about the Nu-yo? It really depends on the night you go there and the season of the year. They do have youth night, and poetry night, and hip hop night, and it's important to check the calendar. Saturday nights are fun, it is always important to get there at least an hour early to guarantee a seat. The line is long and cold in the winter, but I always come up satisfied. Good poetry, vibe, and can last until the wee hours if needing an escape. When they are having the battles for the poetry teams... is definitely a time to go.

Hands down my favorite place in SF to see a show/DJ and dance my ass off. I was here most recently for Ghostland Observatory (amazing!) which was one of the most fun nights of out of control dancing I've had in a long time... Love the big area for dancing, love the sound system, love the bars, love the outdoor patio, love the SF crowd. There isn't anything I don't love about this place. Drinks are steep ($6 average) but they get me drunk... I heart Mezzanine.
