Boobies, booze, and bug-eyed waiters. Ranstead Room's got em all. The boobies aren't real though, well not in 3-D at least. But they are all over the portraits in the room. For some reason the artwork and overall vibe of RR reminded me of the 'Haunted Mansion' ride at Disneyworld, specifically that part when you're going by the portraits and from a different angle you see skeletons instead of their faces, except here you see boobies. And RR is dark and has that haunted vibe going - it'd be a scary place to spend the night by yourself. But instead of hearing an organ playing a death hymn, I heard some Elvis Presley and Etta James. These are all good things. The booooze: lots of different cocktails with fun names like 'Tequila Honeysuckle'. I tried, uhm, quite a few.. and the best bet is to go with the 'Bartender's Choice.' I got 3 different bartender's choice drinks and didn't hit the jackpot until the last one. I kept wanting something wowza and spectacular but that didn't happen. Not to say that the drinks weren't good, they were.. totally worth the $12 tag, but I wanted more. More oomph with ingredients like paprika, essence of pine, or ambrosia - basically a mythical drink, hellooo isn't that what the best drinks are made of?! And to top off the 'Haunted Mansion' experience was our bug-eyed waiter. He was a very handsome fellow, but for some reason his thick, black-rimmed glasses turned out for a contorted looking mug in the candle light; almost like I was under the magnifying glass and he was the one looking through - what a trip! (Maybe I had one drink too many?) He was very nice though and helped out when I needed suggestions on what to drink. I do hope that RR stays a secret, but bars like this never do so we'll see.. My friends didn't trust me when I said, 'C'mon, it's just down this dark alley, I swear. I SWEAR. Trust me.' But now they do!

It is a hit or miss. Some nights the crowd can be good but other nights people are packed in like sardines. Huge crowd to get in so unless you know a promoter or get a table be prepare not to be able to get in. The decor is nice and unique. It is a late night club so the party doesn't stop at 4am ;)

A few of my favourite New York moments have been on/at The Frying Pan. Watching the Queen Mary go down the river, while the Forbes yacht goes up the river, against the Jersey skyline ...then a helicopter takes off from the deck of the Forbes yacht against the setting sun. The bartenders have never stinted on the gin in my adult beverages ... to the degree that 2 is usually more than enough. Decent food on the grill. The crowd's mmmmmm eclectic. Yeah, that's it, eclectic. The only downside - the bathrooms - a little tricky to get to/into if anyone in your crowd has any mobility limitations, and not exactly sparkling clean.
