by Mikey U. on I dropped into Martuni's one night to attend the Fabulous Pam B's birthday soiree... SWANKY! (... and the place is kinda nice too!) The place was already filled to standing room by 9pm when I had arrived a little bit ahead of the party, so I shimmied my way to the bar for a couple beers. The excellent service and friendly patronage make for a cozy atmosphere... The street corner address makes for a high profile locale, high visibility & accessibility. Once inside, the decor takes on a film Noir-ish feel; a dimly lit room of slender tall tables/chairs, high backed (p)leather booths, mirror'd wall and curved bar adorned with porcelain statuary. As the main bar area us apt to be busy and crowded, the piano room to the back right, just beyond a curtained doorway, provides an entertaining departure from the norm of loud music and flashing lights. No highly trafficked corner of San Francisco would be complete without a crazyperson or three, so the bit of time I/we spent out front getting air (*cough*smoking*ahem*) was usually peppered with tangential conversations with a [drunk and high] cape-wearing fellow who showed up in a chauffeured towncar. All in all, a great little bar with big attitude! __________________________________ And a Pam B birthday night? Guaranteed audacious good time, replete with rampant-but-innocent flirtations and at least one spilled Cosmo, a broken glass!! *hugs*, Pam! Hi, Pam's Mom!! [ http://www.rateclubs.com/us...]
by J J. on As a native New Yorker, The Park is certainly not my cup of tea for a drinking/party scene. I've been here several times and find that some enjoy it because of its décor, free admission, and space. I personally do not like the attitude that some of the bartenders have. I especially find that there is an inconsistency with admissions. On one night, my friend couldn't get in because the doorman claims he saw someone else with the same resemblance/name enter. Not only did he imply that Asians look alike, but he requested another form on ID other than a valid NYS-issued driver's license. My friend didn't have one, so I suggested showing him her Facebook account as a valid form of identification - he didn't think it was funny. We still got in after speaking with management. Crowd: Mix crowd (predominately Asian) Drinks: Standard drinks, but expensive. Music: Mix (mostly hip-hop), but terrible DJ Tips: 1. Have a good female to male ration. (For Men) 2. Don't dress to sloppy and no sneakers (For Men) 3. Bring more than one ID (if you're Asian)
by Shane Morikawa on I'm originally from the sticks, so when one of my friend's parents visited from back home we had to take them to some place that played country music. This place was pretty spacious and had a huge dance floor, but it's not some place I'd want to visit regularly. If you like country music and two-stepping you should probably check this place out. My friend's parents know how to drink and at one time I had two full beers in front of me. My friend's dad was getting up to go back to the bar and I looked at my friend and said "Tell your dad I don't need another beer." And he told him. Lo and behold another beer was placed in front of me. This was about 30 minutes before closing time, so I had to chug down three beers faster than I can usually drink one. My friend's parents will be back in town Thursday, so I hope all of you will keep me in your thoughts. This just in: Went back on a Thursday and they were having karaoke. Seemed pretty cool.
