Alright, there are dives and then there's this place. It's a strip club, it's a dance bar, it's not a dive bar. It's a bad shade of vomit green of all those things. The women taking their clothes off should not be taking their clothes off, in fact I barely wanted to see them with their clothes on. Cans of beer and an ATM that charges 10%, not a specific fee, but 10% of whatever you take out. Cash only. The floors were stickier than an old movie theater and wood paneled walls stunk of cigarette smoke and bad perfume. Yeah it worth walking through because there aren't many places on earth like it, but it's probably not worth more than 30 minutes of your time.

I have never been to the buddha bar in Paris and I have been a huge fan of their lounge music ever since I discovered Karunesh and trance music in Goa. Budhha Bar was everything I hoped it would be. You have to either look like a movie star to get in or be on a guest list or make reservations. By midnight ppl are auctioning for tables to get in and the going rate starts at a 1000 $. The food looks so Chi Chi and sounds exotic but tastes like any normal above average restaurant.... Their drinks all sound exotic but don't do any wonders to your taste bud... but despite all of that, I had a great evening, was pleasantly drunk, caught up with all my old friends and enjoyed all the eye candy.. It was a not so tasking evening for my cole haan too...I did not have to stand in a line to get in ...good to move up the ladder once in a while....

so, yeah. the place is a dive. you have high expectations? don't eat here. but if you have low expectations, don't mind waiting for the waitress, and appreciate cheap home-made food without the frills and are a vegetarian, then this is your place for all-you-can-eat vegetarian ethiopian food (until 8:00p most nights). sometimes when i've gone there we've had to wait 20+ minutes for the food. sometimes you wait 5. have a beer in the meantime and relax! you're in a bar. sometimes the jukebox is only playing neil diamond on repeat; sometimes you get lucky and it's GnR. if you're looking for atmospheric ambiance and overpriced food, then go to one of the many other Ethiopian/Eritrean restaurants in the city. if you like eating in dive bars but are a vegetarian and/or hate greasy burgers and fries, Waziema awaits you.
