Maybe my friends and I were the anomalies but we were able to get in without any probs on Memorial weekend. The bouncer was super nice so the place gets an extra star for that. Once downstairs, we were immediately greeted by scantily clad girls in gold bikinis and tropical flowers gyrating to what passes as house/dance music. And boy was I glad I opted to leave my gold bikini at home b/c that would've made for an embarrassing evening. In any case, as I was placing my orders at the bar, the girl to my left interrupted me mid-order and informed the bartender that she (the queen of the universe) was in fact next. She then proceeded to spew forth her commands with an undeniable air of haughtiness, followed by an obviously strategic kiss and a lofty $20 tip. "This", she huskily whispered while staring into his subservient eyes, "this is FOR YOU." I half expected her to whip out a boob next but fortunately the show was over and I was able to keep my dinner down. After that shameless display, I thought two could play this game and tried to one up her by offering the bar tend a kiss from my fair skinned, 6'3 ft male companion. He didn't take to that too well and looked rather frightened but hey, I gave it a shot. At least my attempt wasn't dripping in utter desperation. But I digress, back to the actual review. The best part of Infusion is the snazzy hand driers in the bathroom. Aside from that, the place is pretty generic. The decor is so-so (tons of red everywhere), the drinks are drinkable but weak, the backroom dance floor is ridiculously crowded and stuffy, and the music was spazzy and random. All in all, likely will not be venturing here again any time soon.

Albeit, I stopped by on a wednesday and I really dont dig techno or drum and bass, unless its kidkoala. but seriously. My friend and I heard crazy beats so we thought it would be funny to come in while waiting for our show to start at the middle east. This place desperately needs a revamp. Lets start with the creepy crowd, at first my friend and I thought it might be a gay bar, but then I reazlied none of the guys were cute enough to be gay and then I noticed the bleh decor. Then when we ordered our beers on tap, yuck, they were sooooo yeasty, the lines definitely need to be cleaned. overall bleh.

El Gringo and Red House Lounge are a nice couple that live on the Eastside. El Gringo takes care of the cooking and Red House takes care of two other pesky little human desires...drinking and socializing. Red House Lounge is a spin-off born from the up-and-coming East Austin Restaurant Family (composed primarily of eateries opened by Carlos Rivero and company). It shares space with its brother El Gringo and was opened as spillover space for hungry patrons needing a drink before their table was called. I think it's safe to say that Red House has come into its own as a welcome retreat for 25-35s who are smart enough to know that East Austin is quieter, cheaper, edgier, easier to navigate and generally much cooler than say...oh...6th St.? (I'm being cursed by Eastsiders for giving away their good secrets...sorry guys....). Anyway, Red House is completely chill and I would spend any night of the week here. "Outdoor patio seating" would be a completely inadequate way to describe it. They fill the entire front lawn with chairs and tables! The wait staff is oh-so-cool, but they're good about drinks and they'll try not to forget about you in the rush. Pick your poison for a pretty penny - they've got beer, wine and some tasty Red Grapefruit Martinis. I just wouldn't advise asking them to mix you a dirty. They're still working on memorizing the drink dictionary. Wonderful atmosphere and a great place to relax with friends. Red House Rocks.
