The pillows on the bed say "Wish". Well, I wish the tv in the bathroom had a remote control, the scratched white minimalist furniture didn't look so cheap, the business center sign wasn't called "Wired", the tiny pool with 3 cabanas wasn't called "Wet", the front desk wasn't directly in front of a dj, and they'd bother to stock a single utensil/glass/dish in the suite kitchen. The complimentary Acura MDX shuttle was great, and the special of $30/night to upgrade to a suite was worth it. They may wish for a south beach vibe, but they deliver another mediocre chain addition to the nothing special suburbia mall next door.

My favorite lounge in midtown. Good drinks, great music, and some dancing if you like. The 30-something urban professional crowd is diverse and works for me so i can avoid the white-tee contingent. Perfect place to start a nite of bar hopping thru midtown... or stay and chilll all nite and get to know the girl you're sitting next to at the bar...

Someone I knew was having a birthday party here and despite having a really bad experience at Santa Monica Busby's, I sucked it up and went. When I pulled up to the place, I saw a long line of people and I thought, "they all can't be waiting to get into Busby's." Boy was I wrong. It was a Saturday night so what could I expect? But the thing that pissed me off was that a group of girls who got there the same time we did got in without waiting and without paying the cover. I know I know, this stuff happens all the time. What put the cherry on top was that one of my friends' former psych TA, a real jerk btw, was there with his post-frat boy friends (who were hitting on my friends) and both of them got whisked into the club sans line and sans cover. So the night started off on a bad note, but once we got upstairs to the dance room where the birthday girl was, it wasn't so bad. We got inside at around 11pm and the dance floor wasn't packed and there was actually lots of space to sit down. Once we got some drinks (they are very stiff, btw), we started dancing. Or at least we tried to. The dj was very bad. He would go into these mixes that totally threw everyone off their rhythm and the music selection was very choppy. Towards the end of the night, it got really really crowded and very sweaty. I've been to my share of clubs in LA, but honestly, they needed to turn up the AC because it was just ridiculous in there. The crowd was a mix of ethnicities and ages, and not as sleazy or pervy as some of the other clubs that I've been to. However, after yesterday's experience, I have made a resolution to never come back here or to any other bar/club in the Busby's franchise.
