It was a dark and stormy night. "43 Degrees Fahrenheit" my phone shouted at me when I checked the temperature. Gently I tapped the screen to refresh - surely it couldn't be that cold outside and yet so damn hot at KoKo's. A bead of sweat formed on my brow. I tried to ignore it as I fiddled with my phone - but its inexorable march down the side of my face grew in my mind like a weed. Jacket came off. Could I take my pants off? A quick glance at the patrons said yes. The bouncer, no. How many Modelos can people drink? Backup. WHY are people drinking Modelo? Maybe it's because it's so damn hot in here. Another beat of sweat forms and quickly dives down the path its lover had formed on my face. I start getting nervous. Where's the door? What if I'm trapped in here, forced to sweat, wear pants and drink modelo all night? I look around; timidly at first, then progressively frantic. Finding the door I stumble outside. Oh, sweet cold air. Oh sweet dim city twilight. I'm going to whiskey thieves.

The Granada has some of the best LA bands around playing live on fridays and saturday nights. It's very uncrowded on fridays, saturdays are packed but they open up the 2nd floor dance floor on saturday night so you have a lot extra room to do all your fancy moves. This place is a dance studio when it's not a weekend nightclub where they teach eveything from salsa to ballroom to swing. Enio and Teryl are the owners and team that teach salsa here among a few other classes and are technique oriented salsa teachers. The salsa classes are always large. Highly recommend it.

This bar is so big! In the patio area you might find some cool little thing like a teacup Chihuahua who makes poops so tiny you want to eat them, then there's a scary skinny hallway with bathrooms that are gross and have doors that don't lock right, a sweat-filled rectangle room where several ex-boyfriends will be hanging out with their new girlfriends and the girlfriends' perky pink tits (perkier and pinker than mine, anyway), and between the big main bar and the shuffleboard table there's a girl in a pink Pocahontas shirt crying--oh wait, that was me. Anyway when you've had enough of this freezing cold shithole you can run up the street to Taqueria Cancun or that place that sells fishballs and call it a night.

I came to this club on a whim on a Saturday night with some friends from out of town. It started out real slow around 10:30 but by midnight, it was packed. The bartender was SUPER friendly - honestly, greatest bartender I've ever had. The sounds system is incredible and the dance floor is fun. It got crowded, but if you wanted to, you could easily pull shapes and cut the rug along the sides. Definitely a place I will go back to.
