2 Stars for the amazing ambiance....But...I don't care too much about what's playing on the main screen, or if it looks like dia de los muertos "up in here!!" when..the MARGARITAS SUCK!!! "Change the name Velvet Margarita"...YOU'RE NOT WORTHY!!!

Not sure why some of my friends always end up here. O wait, I do know why. It is because they went to high school in the greater Atlanta area, and sweat the South. They really fit in with their Sperry's and kahkis. This place is spacious with the inner atrium and fountain. If it were located in EAV, than it would probably be a really cool scene. Unfortunately, Buckhead doesn't stand for anything good and this place attracts the cream of the crap. Bartenders don't seem to represent the general populace. I think they are nice as long as you don't look like every other D-bag there. Go here if you like rich Southern guys.

After living in San Francisco for so many years, you sorta get used to every bar and their sister having a dj spinning at any given time. You get used to the amateur blanket of sound, maybe you pay $3 because the otherwise free establishment believes such pretense can drive revenue on a Wednesday. And then you go to a real club and pay $20 to dance to some local shlubs from Vallejo. You start to forget what it's like to have a club within walking distance of your house that attracts real talent, both residential and guest, at amazingly low covers. That is Fluid, and it's been one of the greatest re-discoveries since I've been back. Before I go further, I'll add that the peep-show bathroom orientation has been clumsily but effectively modified so that the toilet stall now has a semblance of privacy, though those standing at the urinals still need to exercise some discipline in order to not catch a refracted glimpse of his neighbor. Anyway...get over it. No one cares about yer junk. The place is small and intimate and the dancefloor is compact, which encourages lots of contact on better, sweatier nights. The last few times I've gone, I've been a bit disappointed by the lack of a human being working the lights, but the music has been stellar. Of note are resident djs ?uestlove of the Roots and Josh Wink, who doesn't seem to age. If you can catch either of these guys on their nights (when not touring), do it do it do it. I've been to Fast|Cheap|OutofControl once, and that was enough for me, but if you like rockin' out with the option to strip on a go-go box and have people leer at you, it's worth checking out. Recent guests (not involving amateur burlesque) have included Q-tip, Biz Markie, The Rub (a NYC party touring in '07) and Andy Smith of Portishead. Local man-about-town Dave P (of Making Time) has a great monthly gig called Click and Diplo dropped by to guest at that party not long ago. I continue to be humbled by the awesomeness of what a gift philly has in Fluid.
