I will always have a little spot in my heart for Tao. This was one of the first super popular Asian fusion places around. Now it's been here for years and lost it's cool factor but it is still a solid place. Years ago I would've given it 4 stars. The bar area is still usually packed but they make super strong drinks which help you forget about the crowd and thumping music. The food is still pretty yummy. My absolute favorite thing to get is the Kobe beef shabu shabu. I also like their specialty rolls, lobster and shrimp spring rolls and spicy tuna tartare. Go during the week or during off hours if you don't want to deal with the tourists and the crowd.

I had no idea how much drinks cost because I got a nice FELLA to pay for them ;) but I can say they were good drinks. The bartender was a sweetie, fulfilling my alcoholic needs. I drunkenly complained that my long island wasn't strong enough so Mr. barkeep pulled out his guns and held 4 bottles of alcohol at once (in the most impressive manner I might add), pouring the drinks into a seamless singular stream of liquid courage into my glass. How nice of him! Lounge-wise, this place has great comfy furniture and interesting decor. It was mod slash porn furniture accompanied by huge flat screen tvs playing the film Little Man. Alls I can say is what a freaking trip it was to be drunk and see Marlon Wayans' gigantic head on a baby body bouncing to the beats of Fergie while sitting on a chair made of disco pants.

Site of the most bizarre Christmas Eve ever: Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the 'Loin All the creatures were stirring, and begging for a coin To savor a drop, of sweet nectar from the 21 Of Wild Turkey, of Olde English, or some kind of rum Bring me your winos, your legless, organless, and homeless Fill another glass Danny, it's a long walk to Van Ness Kumbaya, crack mama, let me buy you a shot You're looking a little skeevy, honey that dress ain't so hot But in the spirit of Christmas, I hope the pimp is tender And maybe won't go off on a rage-filled bender Oh Christmas Time with the bums and the hoes In a place where it never snows, I may have hit a new low For I am sharing my whisky with a one-eyed friend On a bizarro Christmas, it feels like we're at the world's end
