Great location and beautifully decorated. I love that the building is old and has a lot of character but is not run down. Very classic and chique yet subtle. The room we got had a gray yet modern furnishings and an amazing view of Hollywood Blvd. Mann's Chinese theater is right across the street as well as several other attractions. It is also near the Hollywood and Highland subway station. There are several restaurants, bars, and clubs walking distance from the hotel. It is defiantly the hotel I recommend for locals and tourist.

Okay, the good first. 1) Hot gogo dancers 2) A trapeeze! Where occasionally someone will actually do tricks on it! 3) Great music 4) Pretty cool layout and decor, with entertaining Korean music videos shown on the screen. Now, the not so good stuff. 1) I think it's impossible for a guy to get in past 12, if he's not with like at least 3 girls. 2) 20 dollar cover charge! 3) RIDICULOUSLY crowded, like no room to dance, and people shoving past you every 5 seconds. Pretty good, just for the novelty of going there, but the price and crowdedness make it a place I would not normally go back to.

Velvet Margarita reminded of Carlito's Way - if Carlito Brigante ever set up shop on the West Coast and tried to run a place, this would be it. I went with a friend on a Monday night for spontaneous dinner plans in the Hollywood area. We're both jonesing Mexican; I suggest Acapulco - this idea is shot down with alarming - yet understandable - brevity: "No." My friend suggests Velvet Margarita. "Ehm?" It sounds like a place where Tommy Chong walks around in flowery Bermuda trunks and a dirty-yellow smiley face T-shirt, puffing on a Habanero while a girl named Dolores chews gum rather loudly and reluctantly wipes the beer foam off of his mustache. The garish velvet surroundings covering the interior tilted towards "Miami Vice" Season 2, circa 1987. Then I noticed that, save for a corner booth with a Hispanic chap with sunglasses sandwiched by two beautiful women, the place was absolutely empty. It was my friend, myself, and the 213 Benny Blanco eating in the same dining room, homes. Along with the strobe lights illuminating the desolate dance floor, they were playing Tito Puentes at full blast - the restaurant being 99% empty nothwithstanding. It didn't bother me, but they could have saved a nice chunk on the energy bill. The margaritas were nice n' stiff, and there was a two-for-one special that I, being the semi-alcoholic that I am, took full advantage of. I ravaged two baskets of chips and salsa like a hungry lunatic. Subsequently, the perfunctory smoked salmon and spinach quesadilla I ordered as a main course dissipated without much afterthought. I wonder if Carlito had his say on the menu.
