by susan s. on Griffin is one of those places where everything looks good. From the minute we walked into the establishment, you are amazed by the huge chandelier hanging from the middle of the room. Surrounded by beautiful people dancing and poppin' bottles, its definitely a fun time!
by Stephanie Z. on I use to HATEEEEEEEE going clubbing in SF because none of the places were EVER diverse enough for me. I'm still not the biggest fan of SF, but this place was VERY diverse for this type of club scene. So yay for that. However, the first floor is house music (which I personally LOVE but apparently not many others here did), and hte upstairs is hip hop top 40 what not. OK, I HATE HATE HATE when places get so crowded and hot I feel like I'm in a sauna. The goods though? They played The Killers and Bon Jovi. YAY for that. Um, but I don't like places that play their music in "phases" (Ie, starts with old school hip hop, moves on to top 40, then classic rock, then super bay area music).. why can't they mix it all up?!??!! Plus this DJ stopped between songs. OK IPOD.
by Kiyoko Cocoros on On the bill: Electronica + guitar shoegazering bands. The crowd: Hipsters galore, canvass keds and bikes outside. Atmosphere of the place: wonderful - warm & cozy. The good: It was sold out well in advance. Sold out at the door as well. I was there, alone, rather early (20 mins after the door, 40 mins before the show - which started right on time) and after hanging outside for a few minutes waiting for an extra ticket I just got sold an admission by the (friendly) door guy. Despite being sold out, it didn't feel too crowded and getting close to the stage was no problem. The neat: 1am, weekday - full house. The problem: One of the bands' singer mic was either off or too quiet to hear *at all*. People complained to the sound man but he said there was nothing he could do. Even after the band was alerted the problem didn't go away. Not sure whose fault; likely the band's. Also, there were at least 40 minute breaks between each act (of 3) - not very efficient... Easy in-and-out can come useful. The food: Made a mistake going there hungry. FORTY MINUTES WAIT FOR A BURGER after twenty minute wait for a waiter!! Had to listen to most of the first band from the back room while chewing. Very unpleasant part of the otherwise very pleasant experience.
