by Amanda O. on I went on a Saturday night (techno night, not my favorite, but eh). I walked right in with 3 or 4 other girls. No cover, no line, nothing. There was a photographer right when we walked in. He went to take our picture and some old dude jumped in on it. He said to me, "Now that picture is going to be worth some money since I'm in it." Oh please. I didn't even know who this guy was. This initial encounter is probably what turned me off from the entire club. Went to buy drinks, had to wait in line at the bar for a while, but some schmuck picked up our tab, so I guess I can't complain. The dancer's costumes were awesome. The club was big enough to move around. I liked that. But overall, we really just did a lap or two and bailed. I heard Sunday nights are better. And to respond to a review below regarding getting kicked out by the bouncers after a claim that you didn't pay and then they called the police and had you arrested when you freak out because you had in fact paid? That is the second time I have heard that EXACT same story. So on that note, I would recommend to everyone to hang on to your receipts there!
by Hilary Izsak on I learned a valuable lesson a couple of years ago. Do not go to the Blue Note after CBGBs (no longer a problem). The reverse order would be OK. After being at CBGB's for a set with not yet well know White Strips it was hard to transition to listening to Jazz. A stop at Brewsky's did not help either. Only 4 stars because I think there are better Jazz clubs in New York. Iridium is one and the Lincoln center jazz club in the Time Warner center is another.

Since I only went to see the opening act, Brandi Carlile, who was opening for Shawn Colvin, I didn't stay very long but from what I did see of the venue, it was quite nice and the sound was great. The staff was a little too strict tough. Apparently, you can't even stand on the white line only inside of it.
