Ventured to Biscuits and Blues last night with friends to see Lavay Smith and Her Red Hot Skillet Lickers in the downstairs venue. They rocked the house, but the venue as a whole has some weak spots. Making a reservation was easy (via phone) $20 per person and we booked dinner too. Easy friendly check-in, and seated at a nice booth close to the stage. This place (gets a minus star) for seriously outdated decor in both the main room and the bathroom. Needs an HGTV makeover pronto! Service was fast...our waiter, poor guy had way too many tables, but he did his best. Food was mediocre (another minus star). Basket of biscuits was horrible...they were frozen and/or not fresh at all just a waste of my ordering time. Skip them. The fried chicken was hot and delicious, crispy skin accompanied by garlic mashed taters which were fine. A side of greens was horrible, cold and not fresh at all. Shame on the kitchen for sending out crap like that on a plate. Iced tea was good, but you get charged for refills ($2 each time) which was annoying. Overall, if you like good blues and/or music, stop by for a visit. Skip the main courses, and go for the appetizers, or just drink a lot and skip the food altogether. Staff here is great, but the owners really should give this place a makeover as the decor is seriously looking like it's in need of some Botox.

Definitely a cool underground spot. A lot of locals go here and the place has a pretty loyal fan base. As "under" ground as Midtown will get. The place is dark, dirty, smelly, noisy - everything an underground place should be. Wednesdays get pretty popular, but you'll be waiting for a drink (pretty understaffed). Overall, this place has been great because there has been little competition. The scene is sort of changing with the Shelter in Buckhead, but I think that MJQ will still get most of the East Atlanta crowd - at least for a while.

Nice trendy little bar hidden on the 3rd floor above a store in K-town. The place has great table service, fruit plates are awesome and a perfect compliment to the dranks. Good crowd predominantly young asians living large. Great place for big groups. All it needs is a dance floor and it would easily be four stars.
