We were really disappointed -- we came on a Thursday for beginner salsa lessons, planning to have the lesson then stay for drinking and dancing afterward. The place was EMPTY, except for one couple, who completely ignored us. We figured once the song ended, they'd bring us into the "class", but the next song came on and they continued to ignore us as we stood there kind of staring like idiots wondering what to do. We stood around for a little while longer, and another woman came downstairs, walked by us a few times, also ignoring us when we tried to get her attention. We walked out, having schlepped all the way there. It was especially disappointing, because it was my friend's last evening in San Francisco. If you're going to go for the first time and don't know what to expect, I suggest calling to make sure there's actually an event and/or lessons going on, and that you'll be welcome (no matter what the website says.)

I've been to Kress on two separate occasions--once for an office party and again for Valentine's Day. At the office party, there was free food/appetizers and an open bar. We also had access to every floor in the club, including the rooftop bar. Each floor has a sort of theme to it that makes it fun to explore. The bottom floor is where the dance club is and is designed with tables/couches surrounding the dance floor. Up one floor is the restaurant area which has huge plush booths and a chandelier--this is what you see from the front entrance of the venue. The 3rd floor resembles a library or study room. The top floor is where the rooftop bar is and somewhat reminds me of the Standard Hotel (Downtown LA) bar. On Valentine's Day, luckily we were on the guest list, otherwise I'm not sure how long it would have taken to get in considering that the door guy was only looking for people to pay him for entrance. Access throughout the club depends on what floors your promoter is promoting for--that's interesting and weird, I've never heard that before at any other Hollywood establishment. Either way, it was dead, not sure if it was because of Valentine's Day, but there weren't many people upstairs at the rooftop bar or in the bottom dance floor room. The music was okay, the only problem was that the bass was strong I felt like my insides were being jiggled around the entire time. It actually started making me feel sick, which led to us leaving the club. There's a lot right around back that has valet parking for $20, and is right next to the back entrance.

i went here on a saturday night, and i've got to say that i like this place a lot. first impressions are always made at the door, and the 2 door hosts did a great job in making us feel welcome while conveying an easy going mood to the place. there are 2 rooms and a bar for each room. one room plays reggae while the other room had a latin vibe to it. they have a $10 cover, standard bar prices, and a parking/valet charge. parking in the lot was $5 and the vip valet was $20; you don't have to use their parking services if you find parking on the street. the music in both rooms were great, and even better was the ambiance. this place has a really mellow/chill vibe, and everyone there just seemed to be laid back; it's a nice diverse crowd minus the hipsters and trouble makers. no vip lines equals no vip annoyances. the entire staff there is great and helped make the overall experience that much better. definitely a good place to kick back and parlay, parlay, parlay. parking in the area isn't all that great, but the $5 fee for using their lot is worth it.
