I would give Waziema two stars for the food, but they were really nice about letting us open two bottles of wine with no corkage fee so I'm feeling generous.  The food was just . . . really subpar.  The injera was thin and not up to the sponge standard and the vegetarian combo was passable at best.  The best Ethiopian in the bay area remains in San Jose at Zeni.

Definitely a must visit when in LA! Great place for drinks and lounging From the outside looking in, you don't see much at all. It's completely disguised as a normal building but the huge line (which moves quick) to get in will let you know you're in the right place. I got really lucky when a friend was showing me around the city brought me here or else I wouldn't have ever known about it! Stepping in, I was blown away with how huge and roomy it was, especially from the chandelier-type thing that was over 2 stories tall! I LOVE the feel and vibe from this place. Extremely dark, dim lit, underground, vintagey 1920's feel. It was like I stepped into a hidden underground lounge at Disneyland! Walking around you see original equipment left behind from when it actually was a running power plant. Even sitting by the furnace I could smell the old age in the air. *edit* cool nerdy fact: The Edison is celebrating their hundredth anniversary this year from when they opened the power plant back in 1910.. WOW When it comes to drinks, forget ordering your normal vodka cran. They have mixologists here that create drinks using unique ingredients for a fresh, well-crafted cocktail. My friend ordered me an English Afterthought which was a fizzy blueberry drink with muddled mint and ginger.. it was deliciously light and fruity! yum They also have fairies that cart around absinthe cocktails.. legal absinthe, don't worry haha. I personally can't stomach the drink the traditional way (with a sugar cube dripped with ice cold water.. bleh! strong black liquorice flavor) but I did get a potion bottle filled with Absinthe and pineapple ($18!) which was good but strong! Apparently there were 3 shots of Absinthe inside.. so it's definitely shareable.. and you get to keep the bottle :) Don't think you could be strolling in looking street casual either. Dress code is enforced (especially for guys cause girls going out always look fab ;D) and they won't let you in without dress shoes. I feel like I should be dressed with my 'flapper-girl' dress, strappy heels, and red lipstick the next time I visit here to lounge with friends.. so vintage chic!

Tao is hip with a modern orientel theme with cool screen ceilings, a giant buddha...perfect dim lighting...Atmosphere is worthy of a 4/5. I would give it a 5 if the tables were spaced out more away from each other to add to the privacy/ quite zen feel... Food was great...boasting fusion flavours...The few times I have been there I have  had the Shrimp Tempura Roll with Curry Sauce, Mongolian Scallion Chicken, Maki, Lobster and Shrimp Dumplings...all excellent.... 4/5 because its a little over priced Drinks were awesome..this a ALSO just a good place to just chill over cocktails / drinks and small plates...The Lychee Martini and Mango Tamrind Martini are my favs...
