This bar, situated in the lobby of the Culver Hotel, wasn't at all what I expected. When you think of bars, you think of low lighting, bar stools, and lots of flat screen TVs on sports channels. Instead, there was plenty of natural lighting, lots of love seats and couches, a piano, and large landscape paintings left and right. It felt like a quaint hotel lobby... which was exactly what it was! They have decent happy hour prices. $4 house chardonnay and cab, $3 draft beer, $6 signature cocktail specials Very few items on the food menu (5 to be precise), but what they had was pretty good and only $5. There was a guy there on a guitar playing jack johnson/john mayor-esque songs. He was pretty good. I probably wont come here again, but it was a good experience. It was A-OK!

First of all, it was $18 to get in, but the line at the door ran out of singles, so my buddy and I had to "tip" the extra two bills to the house. And we had a two drink minimum. The basement was completely devoid of an character other than "hole." The crowd seemed like they, down to a member, drove in from Fresno and were really really really trying to hang on with failing death grip to the last gram of cool they ever had. I never saw so many slovenly overweight balding men with grey hair in a ponytail or frumpy housefraus trying to be sexy vixens in my life. The band we paid twenty bucks to come see were okay. They were a cover band. We do not pay $20 to hear a cover band. After all, the following night, we heard legendary Marian McPartland at Yoshi's for $16. This band busted into Rockin Robin. What a sorry place.

Not necessarily situated in the best of locations, 222 is nevertheless an excellent place to meet for drinks (and now with a full bar, woohoo!). They have some basic but creative and very tasty food you can order at the bar (I am a big fan of their pizzas) or eat in the back dining/party room. Ask for Joe or Bianca when you go, and tell 'em Nish sent you!
