I love this place. First came here on a Saturday night. The most interesting crowd. Three boats tethered together, gently rocking with the water - it just doesn't get any better. It's like a fourth of July cookout - on the water - everyday!

THIS IS MY FAVORITE PLACE IN ALL OF DOWNTOWN AUSTIN. From the automatically-opening curtain upon entrance, to the deep, rich, mahogony colored leather booths that line the walls, this place has ATMOSPHERE. Not to mention the best mojitos in town -- all of which are served with real sugar cane. (Personally, I love the banana flaored mojitos.) However, beware -- the pitchers of mojitos seem like a really good deal, but they do NOT do the drink justice. Mojitos must be made one-by-one. And the fooooooood.... oh, the food. Although it's undoubtably a fun place to hang out and drink, make sure you also dine here at least once. The poblano pepper soup is LITERALLY TO DIE FOR -- be sure to ask for extra cilantro, mmmm. Also, the vegetable empanadas are amazing. I'm vegetarian so maybe I'm a bit biased, but all of my non-vegetarian friends swear that the veggie ones are noticably better than the chicken ones.... Definitely check out Thursday nights, which feature the Martinis & Manicures event -- a lot of fun for a group of girlfriends (and even some guy friends! ;). Also, if you have friends who aren't quite 21 yet, they officially allow under-agers in until 10PM -- and in my experience, they don't make them leave after that. Finally, one of the best parts about Cuba Libre is the valet service that is right outside the door. But make sure you make a practice of walking around your car to check for bumps and bruises before you take the keys and drive away -- I've personally gotten bitten in the ass for not doing this before. Whenever I have friends in from out of town, I always take them here -- and they are always impressed.
