Indifferent bartender. Hadn't heard of most of the cocktails we requested and didn't have half the ingredients! Most of the drinks on their menu needed pineapple juice n they ran outta that at 6pm during happy hour on a slow Tuesday! Didn't quite enjoy the ambiance either, it was way too bright for a sports bar. On the 'bright' side, huge portion of fries for a mere 3 bucks! Wouldn't go back again, not even for the fries!

I'm a fan of music. Good electronic music. In a good space with good sound. So I'm torn. Speaking as a B&T guy, this place is too B&T. I know, how do I have the right to criticize? (I'm back on the east coast after 8 years in SF, and I need to find a place to hear good music.) Cielo books great DJs. The sounds is perfect. The setting is very hip... but perhaps too hip. So it ends up having a bad "I'm here for the music" to "I'm here to be seen" ratio (favoring the "see me" crowd heavy with B&T flavor). But I've been told that all the B&T now live in Manhattan and they're not really B&T, really... and I should head out to Brooklyn to find the good stuff. I miss NYC before they "cleaned it up". Meatpacking was much cooler when the trannies roamed the streets instead of the fake boobs and dudes with tucked in shirts... oh bother...

Tuesday: January 16, 2007. 10:05pm, rain stopped, wet. Drinks with my drinking gal, a co-worker (the b-day girl) with her sister and two of her friends (one who is a Psychic). The very first time I was at Bubble Lounge, it was during a Rateclub Elite Squad event last September -- it was crowded and was filled with happy, friendly Rateclubers enjoying free food and drinks. The second time was a few weeks after the Rateclub event and it was empty, there were people eating dinner, but the place seemed almost depressing and it was a Saturday night. But, I do like the lighting -- dramatically dimmed, yet romantic and classy. I like all the big champagne bottles on the shelves and always wonder if they are real -- I think all the liquor display are real. It's a great place to have a party because there's plenty of room to stand and chat, sit and sip booze while people watching and even dancing and listening to a live band. There are also couches and tables both upstairs and downstairs (bathrooms are downstairs). The servers/bartenders/barbacks are all very nice, friendly and helpful about answering questions we had about the different champagne cocktails they serve. I stuck to what I've gotten in the past... "The Bubble Bellini (Fantinel Prosecco and Peach Puree). Light, yet tasty and very easy to drink. I'm buzzed after two glasses ;-)!
