I had a 7:45 pm reservation and things were going absolutely perfectly - finally, a chic place in the meatpacking district with a lot of table room, where tables aren't on top of each other, where the whole atmosphere seems worth the $400+ I'm going to spend on me and 3 other people... when BOOM at 9:15 pm the music which was so awesome and unobtrusive got bumped up to the point where I know tomorrow I'm not going to have any voice from the way I had to scream across the table. But all of the special sushi rolls were unbelievably melt-in-your mouth amazing and they happened to forget to bring our bar tab over from the bar where we sat earlier... but still, why do all of these fancy restaurants have to turn into annoying clubs halfway through your meal? I mean I know we're there for 2.5 hours but don't I deserve to sit and enjoy my meal if I'm paying that much? I would do an event here, though. Totally cool, food was great. I'm just kinda disappointed about the music, since the night started out so well. If you want to avoid it, I say make your reservation at 7 and try to get out of there by 9.

Oh baby. You know who I wanna see here? Curtis Mayfield. Yeah, I know he's dead. But how great would that fucking be? It just feels right. Anyway, I think that Yo La Tengo was a fair substitute for Mr. Mayfield, and this place is so swanky that I put my hair in finger waves and drank Campari, and held hands with my best friend and cried about the things that were and never would be. It's a dignified place to see a show that's gonna make you weepy. In my dreams, I'd go on a romantic date here. But what guy is that classy? Not the dregs I fancy. Anyway, you can probably find me crying here again in a few months when the Stars roll through. Apparently my ex lover is dead. So I've got no choice but to set myself on fire.

I have to admit, I was a little skeptical about the quality of the food before I went for the first time. I knew it was going to be a bit of a scene, and it was. The place was extremely crowded and we waited about 30 minutes for our table. However, we were pleasantly suprised to find the food was actually pretty good. I had the short ribs and was very surpised how good they were. The dishes are about on par in terms of cost with lots of other steakhouses. All in all, a very good experience.
