by Anthony B. on This was a real disappointment. (And sadly, I arrived with low expectations in the first place, given the already mediocre rateclubs reviews.) At first glance I really liked the place because the decor and the smoking area--a high-ceiling, indoor extension--were impressive. It makes me think they've seen better days. Minus those positives, the bouncers were annoying (to say the least). The line bouncers were rude and the dance floor bouncers somehow kept ending up between me and my friends. Also, towards the end of the night my friend was getting a bit "stumbly" and one of the bouncers tried to kick us out. That's understandable. We eventually talk him out of it only to see him return a minute later seeking a bribe. We decided to pay him off and he ended up kicking us out 5 minutes later anyway. That's not even the bad part! Some time around 11:30 they for some odd reason decided to roll down a projector screen and start playing commercials for the NOTORIOUS movie. Soon after that they start playing random, silent notorious b.i.g. music videos while Britney Spears is pumping in the background. Funny at first, but then plain awkward. Not impressed and won't be returning. I hang out in the area often and there are much better options nearby. Some specifics for those who need it: Thursday night $20 cover $10 drinks (well) Lots of asians, fairly crowded but workable Top 40s and the usual old school rotation
by Dave W. on I have been going to Opera since it opened as eleven50 back in 1999. The club was recently renovated in 2007 to bring eleven50 back to its origins as a 1920 Opera theatre. 22 VIP Opera boxes were added to the second level as well as a 3rd level VIP bar with private bathrooms. The lighting and sound systems were enhanced and the dance floor was enlarged signficantly. The club's main room plays mainstream hip hop and mash-up mixes. There are two additional party areas. The outside "Cabana" area has private cabanas, fountains, and miami style house music under the stars and tall buildings of midtown. During the spring, summer, and fall this makes for a great way to start your night prior to going into the main dance room, or to just spend the evening outside. A newly renovated back room has been significantly enlarged for private parties and DJ events with an amazing sound and light system. No other club in Atlanta can match the decadence and party that Opera has to offer. I have been to many of the major clubs throughout the US in places such as NYC, Miami, Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angelese, Las Vegas, and others and Opera stands out as one of my favorite places. The venue is great for large groups whether you want to spend the night as a VIP or in the main party areas. Many VIPs have frequented the club include many professional athletes to music celebrities. The club also brings in some of the world's best DJs on weeknights such as Armin Van Buuren, Tiesto, Paul Van Dyk and others. This is the place to spend your weekends in Atlanta! A night not to be missed...
by Dewayne Rensing on The food makes up for the zero creativity stars when the owner's chose the restaurant's name. But straightforward can be a good thing. We chose Thai & Sushi East Atlanta after driving around the block three times. They were surprisingly busy for a Sunday night - most of the tables were full. The space is dark and like nikki k says, this would make a good date place. We went with Thai - the selections were surprisingly diverse and everything tasted very fresh. I didn't have sushi here, but after reading everyone else's reviews, it sounds like that's what I'll get next time!
