by James C. on If you plan on going to The Box, first make sure you are guaranteed to get in, otherwise you will be standing there..forever or never. Second, make sure you are ready to pull a morning stretch, cause the show starts around 2am, so either stay rested before or drink your favorite energy drink to keep you alert. If you are one of the lucky or privileged to enter the halls of this venue, you will be treated to a surprise provocative and racy vaudeville show that will blow your mind. On the downside, the helfty cost of drinks at The Box could blow you pocket book. I would expect something like this in L.A., but I don't think this type of venue and 21st century revision of the vaudeville show exists there...yet. Expect people to start biting the idea. Actually, it's rumored that the idea came from the Slipper Room just a few blocks east, but The Box really configured the style into a posh club.
by Jessica W. on Cuba should stick to being a bar. They shouldn't even offer "dinner" as an option. Sure it WAS a Tuesday, which was a bad idea, but you should offer consistency if you are going to run a "restaurant." 1) Food was not even close to what we ordered. The "Famous" pork tacos were described as shredded pork with some yummy sounding toppings and I literally got what looked liked fried cubes of potatoes, dry, in a partially burnt tortilla. The Shrimp taco was supposed to be fried and came boiled, not fresh and without any of the toppings. barrrrgle. 2) There were MAX 3 tables in the entire place and at least 3 front of house staffers and I ended BUSSING MY OWN TABLE for the group. The Manager saw me doing this and totally ignored me. It was pretty awesome. I've had my own mixed experiences here. I would come here on a weekend for a cocktail, but probably never for the food, at least not by choice. Food and service get ZERO stars, but I honor it with 2 for the ambiance and fun club appeal (thurs-sat only).
by Gail Feezor on My first trip to The Roxy was this past Saturday for the annual Cut & Paste Design Tournament. My friend Duncan participated in London last year which he wasn't particularly impressed with, but encouraged me to go so he and I could compare our experiences on a global level. We showed up about an hour late, and I ended up getting a ticket for parking in residential ($40). There was not much parking. One seems better off taking a train or maybe parking in the garage. We got in pretty easily but were a little confused as to where we needed to go. It was only 8:30pm, and as the club doesn't really get hopping until well after 10, there wasn't really anyone around to assist us. We finally figured out where we were going and walked into a HUGE room, a HUGE AMAZING room. The lighting was tastefully done and the decor is very hip, yet bordering on elegant. As far as the bar goes, I believe there were 2, possibly 3 bars to frequent upstairs in that one room. A cup of just cranberry juice (as I was packing flask) alone, cost me $5 w/o tip. So you're figuring $6 for 7oz of cranberry juice. May I remind you, that an entire half gallon of cranberry juice costs 1/3 of that. Our after party was set to be downstairs/next door at Caprice. Review to come.
