WARNING: if you are a large group of people at a table, DO NOT GIVE THE WAITRESS CASH. Use your credit card. We went there just yesterday to celebrate a friend's birthday and while the music and the energy of the place is cool, the service is horrible. It took them over an hour to give us our food. Fine. Drink service was slow. Fine. However, when they gave us the bill and we gave them cash, the waitress had the temerity to come back to us and tell us we were a $100 short. Are you kidding me?! We counted that money 3 times to make sure because it was a big bill. And isn't it so suspicious that we are short $100, which is a very specific number. And when we spoke to the manager, he was a rude bastard and basically told us we were stiffing his staff. Then they had the balls to tell us they hope we never come back. Go at your own risk. I know we will never be going there again. Plus the drinks are pretty expensive and the food was sub-par. I had the shell steak and everything, including the rice and beans, needed salt. It was pretty bland.

I took a friend here on Saturday night give her (and me) a taste of the meat packing district on Saturday night. Budha VBar was the first place we stopped and it was exactly what I expected it to be. Big (it's a really huge space) - great decor and ambience. We hung out at the bar mainly but walked around the massive dining room which was still packed at 11pm. I'm clueless when it comes to 'hip' in NYC (I'd never been to this side of town before) but we were made to feel welcome and made at ease (especially given that we'd turned up after a day of sightseing, wearing our sneakers and t-shirts) The music was fabulous, the crowd was beautiful, the drinks were pricey. The perfect MPD experience....

Sugar Cafe was decorated by the same people that did Lime on Market. That said, you know you're in for an innovative design concept. From the two mirrored projectors on the outside window, to the lounging area, the atmosphere was definitely not that of a conventional cafe. However, when the sun goes down and the place turns into a bar, the service was much to be desired. It took my friend and I FOREVER to order our drinks (the bartender basically took everyone's order before he came to us). Maybe I should give this place a second try but make sure I get another bartender.
