by Terri B. on I went to Ella as part of a group, and had an okay experience. We arrived around midnight, and there was no line, so we got in promptly (girl to guy ratio of 3:1 likely helped). A few girls in my group knew someone having a party downstairs, and when we first walked into the room, I was excited: Bar? Check. DJ? Check. Space? Check. My boyfriend and I grabbed two Kettle and tonics (had I known about their cocktails, I certainly would've gone that route), and proceeded to chit chat, dance, and imbibe. My little danceland fantasy was killed within 30 minutes though, as the room got SUPER crowded and some serious d-bags nearly knocked me over in their rush to get in. With that cue, we stayed for about 20 more minutes, said our goodbyes, and went on our way. By the time we got outside, there was a line of 15-20 people. What's the lesson here, kids? If you want to enjoy Ella, you're probably better off arriving early and leaving by 1am.
by Jeri X. on I like that Apple offers many options -- indoor & outdoor, upstairs & downstairs. It gets very packed on Saturday nights, so you get people spilling their drinks on you as they walk by. I liked the music the DJ played. Really nice vibe. Valet is $10 and it absolutely sucks. When we were ready to go, they made us walk around from one valet guy to another, around the back of the building, into another parking lot, across the street -- until we finally reached our car. I was tired and my feet were hurting after standing for hours!!!
by Hildred Wendorff on We visited the Lo Fi for the first time last night, during Soul Night. It was fan-friggin-tastic! Considering that we didn't even make it there till 2am, I was amazed at how many folks were still there dancing. People were even in soul-themed attire! In the front of the club, there is a bar with a really unique lounge area, and the sound is set so you can still hear the music from the back of the club, but it doesn't overwhelm you- conversation is possible. Then, the dance area itself is large, with high ceilings and a ton of windows. I started to really sweat, yet never felt stuffy or overwhelmed- which equals perfection when all you want to do is dance, dance, dance. Plus, all the music was played on actual 45s. It really felt like I was dancing at a friend's house, rather than at a club on Eastlake. People in general were friendly and engaging. I didn't feel alienated just because we hadn't come dressed to the nines. When the few people we talked to heard it was our first Soul Night, they got really excited and told us we had to come back again. My only complaint is that the Ladies Room appeared to be closed, and we could only find one other bathroom, which was in a really, really sorry state. Highly, highly recomended- I've also heard that their hip hop nights are amazing.
