by Jerry W. on Came here on 1-16-10 rainy evening. Initially my friend and I wanted to go to ana mandera---but as I drove there/saw there was already a line at 9:50pm(not even 10pm yet!!!). Both of us knew with elements productions intentionally move the lines slowly which force individuals to pay for admission,even though there's a guest list. My friend called and stopped by my other friend's house which is close by. We decided to go to sloane's which my friend included my hairstylist and I on the guestlist. Small line, with overhead covering which kept us dry and the bouncers appeared to be professional. Beer was $5 and the dj played a variety of songs from the '70's to today's (I wished he didn't play the music so loud and maybe extended some of the songs). It's alright for what it is.
by Helen C. on We were at Minx on a Friday night for some special occasion... maybe b-day, anniversary, break up (see how special it was)? I haven't been there since the Rusty Pelican days (now, that's ancient) so I was eager to check it out. The venue was nicely done with modern decor with cool bar area. It was crowded with party people and that would been a good thing if we were just there to drink but for dinner, it was just too darn loud. We had to yell at each other and after while, I gave up on talking and nodded every now and then to let him know I wasn't ignoring him. We ordered a lamb dish and a steak dish. The food presentation was nice but the lamb was a bit tough to eat. The food overall was good but not exceptional. Service was decent although once again, it was hard to talk to the server because it was too loud. Be aware of the pricey valet parking service. But the parking lot smells oh so good like In-n-Out. I would be opened to giving Minx another try for weekday dinner or lunch if anyone's up for it.
by Cole Sansoucie on This grungy looking rock palace is a real treat to see a show in. The stairs to get to the bathrooms can be a bit of a drama after a few drinks, though. There a lots of nice little spots, levels and platforms to use as great vantage points during live shows. Saw The Killers do a gig here just after the release of Sam's Town and it was....um, killer.
