went here a few months ago during a tuesday night- decompressed i believe it was called. it was fun and the food was pretty good. my bf and i ordered a couple of glasses champagne and 2 cocktails. it was a bit pricey but an experience nonetheless. the mc for the night dressed in drag and gave a strip tease show. an acrobat came out and did a routine. i don't see myself going again unless it's for a special occasion, a real REAL special occasion.. you can definitely get better quality food elsewhere for a fraction of the price, however go at least once!

I've been in Atlanta for 6 years, driven past Alfredo's hundreds of times, seen all the positive reviews, but for some reason had assumed it would be the heavy, oily, over-cooked, over-seasoned, Americanized "Italian" food that you'll find in establishments like Maggiano's, The Olive Garden, et al. Well, I finally decided I should at least give it a chance. Unfortunately, my instinct was correct. I can appreciate the sort of worn-down, "authentic" atmosphere they maintain--many of my favorite restaurants are like that, but the food just isn't very good. The garlic bread was mediocre at best--kind of like a Stouffer's French Bread Pizza with more garlic and no tomato sauce. I thought the caprese salad was below average as well--served with onions and capers (and no basil) on a wilted leaf of lettuce. I had the Penne Arrabiata for my main dish. I couldn't tell if the tomatoes were fresh, because the sauce was horribly over-cooked. It was also very salty and covered in parsley, and I thought the mushrooms and pancetta only made the dish worse. ***Want a good arrabiata? Simmer a chopped clove of garlic in little olive oil for a minute, then add can of peeled San Marzano tomatoes (or fresh if you like), some FRESH basil, kosher salt, freshly ground black pepper, and crushed red pepper and simmer for 15 minutes or so...not that hard.*** I also tasted the minestrone--not terrible, but it was served luke warm, and the Ravioli Pomodoro--meh. To me, good Italian food is about simple, fresh, high quality ingredients, cooked in such a way that the quality and freshness of each ingredient can be enjoyed. The seasoning is there to bring out the natural flavor of the tomatoes, pastas, breads, cheeses, etc., not to overpower them. Alfredo's food has no nuance of flavor, no sense of freshness (despite their claims). If you are looking for Italian in Atlanta, you'll probably see Alfredo's at the top of many lists--but I caution you--it's not good Italian food...there are better options. Sotto Sotto is excellent. Figo, though it's a local chain now, is a quality restaurant at a very reasonable price. Varasano's serves mainly pizza, but he knows what makes real Italian food special.
