My first experience at Harlot was amazing! Honestly, all I remember from this place was that it was dark and there was good music. I had such an awesome time here with my friends on my 21st birthday. I think it would have been better if we had a table, but it was okay since we were club-hopping anyway. The bathroom was very clean and spacious which is important because I absolutely HATE being in nasty bathrooms with crap all over the wet floor. My second experience at Harlot was a little confusing...my friend and I wanted to head back there for a night of dancing. I looked on the website and it didn't say anything about a private event being held there...of course there was. I was confused because it didn't say anything on the website about the event and I was pissed because I was dressed up and just paid 15 cab fare to get over there. The bouncer and some guy in a suit said that they wouldn't let us in even though the place was pretty empty minus the people having their event UPSTAIRS. I guess Harlot is really hit-or-miss...call in before or check the website before you waste your cab fare and get dressed up for nada.

So this was my first time coming here. Overall, I thought the vibe was chill. The night I went when Mohagany Brown hosted. There was a contest (two teams comprised of slam poet-veterans) where judges (regular audience members) scored performances. Some of the "veterans" I wasn't all that impressed with. The strongest poet clearly was Mohagany. This is a good place to go if you are tired of the nightclub and bar scene. I would add "good place to expand your mind," but most of the poets just weren't that deep (not nearly as deep as they thought, anyway). Cons: This place gets PACKED! My friend and I ended up sitting by the fire exit door (for most of the night anyway, then some guy told us it was a hazard for us to sit there, whatever...) To ensure that you have seating, make sure to stand on the line that forms rather early outside. Other cons? Posers...yup, plenty of 'em in the building. Don't get me wrong, I appreciated the diversity of the crowd. It's just that everyone wants to be "deep" and "conscious." Finger-snapping and a "umhumm" is not necessary after every expletive, pause or stanza.
