So, after having heard so many amazing things about this place, I felt I had to give it a go. So we headed for an early afternoon Sunday Brunch. The atmosphere is amazing. Interesting touches everywhere, lots of really great pieces of furniture. We were sat fairly quickly and then "greeted" by one of the surliest waitstaff members I have ever had. After taking our drink orders and handing us back our IDs, our server walked away without so much as a thank you. After a short wait, we were served the best part of our meals. The cocktails. My bloody mary was fabulous! In fact, I think my exact words were "I may have to have ten of these..." It was peppery and wonderfully tomato driven. My boyfriend got the blood orange screwdriver, which was also quite good. We were brought a bowl of beignets that were cold but tasty. I ordered the fried chicken benedict, served on buttermilk biscuits with grits as my side. Bf the Belgian waffle with a side of bacon. We also decided to share a plate of fried green tomatoes, because we were starving at this point. The tomatoes came out sliced too thick, and devoid of spice or sauce. They were literally hunks of tomato with a measly layer of cornmeal dusting. Maybe this would appeal to some purists, but not to me. When my meal came, I asked for some hot sauce and dove in. The andouille gravy was very tasty, but i felt like my chicken was a little on the thin side, and my eggs were WAY over poached. The biscuit however was amazing. The grits were bland, but that is what the hot sauce is for....wait, where is my hot sauce? As far as the waffle, (of which I am not a fan, so I skipped a taste) his reaction was simply "This is the smallest Belgian waffle I have ever seen." He said it was okay. Overall it was a big let down. I was so disappointed I didn't even order a second cocktail. VERY out of character for me. The bloody mary was great, but not good enough to come back for. Definitely would not come back for the food OR the lazy, bordering on rude service. Oh, and speaking of service, I'm still waitin on that hot sauce....

The Local has earned a reputation as the city's most popular hipster bar, thanks mostly to its location next to the popular underground club MJQ (Modern Jazz Quartet, believe it or not). The bar has a great selection of beers on tap, everything from PBR to Hoegaarden. Plus local beers from Sweetwater and the Atlanta Brewing Company. The food ranges from pork barbeque (excellent) to pita pizza (ho-hum). In the back room you can play darts, foosball and arcade games. And they recently added a photo booth. TVs behind the bar and above the foosball table play Braves, Thrashers, Falcons and Hawks games. Reasons to go: The pulled pork sandwich is considered one of the best in the city and the boiled peanuts pack a punch. But The Local is about more than just the food and beer. It's about cool. It's the place where skinny girls with black eyeliner and skinnier boys in worn tees go to be seen before heading over to MJQ to dance the night away. Oh, and Wednesday night trivia is fierce. Reasons not to go: It gets pretty smoky inside The Local. And on the weekends, when business is at it's peak, you may find yourself waiting a longtime for your drink.
