by Alisha G. on This is a review for (weekend) brunch. Umm it's not traditional brunch, but it's the best brunch I've been to. Ever. We came knowing it was suppose to be a great time, but within 20 minutes of being there we were dancing on chairs/tables, anything but the ground...it turned into a full out late night club by 3:30 in the afternoon. As for the food, I'm not sure, I'm sure it was great, I didn't have any. If you come to brunch here you should know in advance that your meal will most likely consist of only champagne and wine served from Vegas-worthy sized bottles, served by an army of servers with sparklers, sooo not an ordinary Saturday afternoon here. My only complaint is that when I was there a host politely asked if I could move down one seat at our long table, which I was offended that I was being asked to move...until he told me that he needed to make room for Gerard Butler...hmm ok fine I'll move ;-)
by Matt M. on I went there on a Friday and a Saturday. I recommend Saturday, it's really packed and it just has a better vibe. Drink prices are about the same as you'll find anywhere else. Upstairs is cool and it's where we usually stay when we go there. I can't say i've never had to pay because I remember paying $10 to get in, but I can't complain I am a guy afterall. It's probably the best place to go in Atlanta if you passed the college phase, so check it out and have a good time...and then rateclubs about it.
by Dolores Mountjoy on GAMH is an awesome venue to see a show. I went to a "private party" there . . . although it was being advertised on both myspace and the band's website telling folks who to contact to get put on the list . . . maybe that's how a private party works . . . how the heck would I know . . . I'm just not that hip people. Anyways, as others have pointed out it's a small room with a balcony and the stage is slightly raised off of the floor to make it easier to see the act and probably to keep the crazies from rushing the bands. Note, this doesn't preclude performers from coming down off the stage into the crowd and proceed to start kissing some woman who's nearby (swear I saw the woman from the opening act do just that last night). But I digress, they allow taping too which is a big plus in my book for a venue. I went to their website looking for their policies and was pleasantly surprised to also find they have a complete inventory of all their gear I guess for performers considering booking the venue. I'm not that up on a/v technology but the end result is the sound masterfully bounces around the room. They also have a nice video projection screen too. As for the neighborhood it's in, I see it's technically in the tenderloin. However, I'd classify this block as one of the less shady spots in that district. I felt totally safe parking my car 2 blocks away and walking to and from the venue more than once. On my way back out to the car after the show I couldn't help laughing when I saw one of those huge tourist buses parked at the corner in from of the strip club and the occupants, all of them Japanese were milling around inside or out front smoking cigarettes. Classic.
