by Nathalie B. on the music sucked. at least in the dancefloor room. for the rest of the place (bar, play area , etc) it was good music. in the pooltable area, there were gross old guys. bar area is insanely crowded. poor layout. on the plus side, the downstairs was decorated nicely. but nothing is downstairs. just the entrance.
by Joe F. on One Star for the talent: Kaskade put on an amazing show. Everything else: Not so much. Arrived at 10pm with tickets in hand and already the line was almost to the end up the alley. We waited for over 2 hours, till we saw people swarming around the will call girl who was checking IDs. Not organized at all, ended up getting out of line to join the mass of people surrounding her. When we finally got our tickets, we were forced to walk around to another line, even though the bouncer was just letting another group of people through the front. Inside, place was way too crowded. Pushed and shoved by too many drunk kids, and someone tried to steal my phone out of my hand twice when i was taking pictures. The two downstairs bars ran out of bottled water, and wouldn't even offer us cups! Sound was okay when you're in the front, but it's quiet and muffled at the back and upstairs balcony. All in all, Kaskade saved the night. Played a great set, and even apologized on twitter about the horrible wait at the club. Sorry Mezzanine but I probably won't be back again, even if the talent is good.
by Breana Calvo on Normally I don't like going to clubs but I've always been intrigued by Bootie's concept of a club full of mashups. A mashup is when they layer one song's vocals over another song's instrumental. You can just imagine what kind of interesting combinations get played here. If you get here before 1030, it's 2 for 1 (6$ a person). There was barely any line when we got there but that's understandable at 10p. We walk in and the room is kind of empty. We decide to get some happy juice and lo and behold, when we get back, the place is jumping. Truthfully I don't remember what I heard but everyone seemed to be having fun. The live band came on about 11p and it was great. They had two tranny singers singing with a live backup band and doing live mashups. It was a new experience for me to see the live band inside the club setting. I'm totally blanking what combinations I heard but I remember bits and pieces: MJ's Billie Jean vocals, Beastie Boys' Sabotage instrumental, Kelly Clarkson over the Cars, etc. etc. The best part was when they were singing NIN's Closer and the tranny is screaming "I WANNA FUUUUCK YOU LIKE AN ANIMAL!!!!!!". Haha where else are you going to see that. The crowd is definitely mixed and you'll see all kinds of different people here. For the most part the crowd looks very civil and there to have a good time. Even in the bar line, we formed a line for drinks. Wow how cordial!!! Actually a pretty decent concept I say instead of that mad flurry to get the bartender's attention. The dance floor was big enough to accomodate everyone as there is also a seperate room upstairs with a bar so everyone is spread out. There was a pretty good crowd but there was definitely room to move around and chill. Negatives about some of the mashups were that the instrumentals were so booming that you couldn't hear the vocals on a few tracks. Not so bad i guess... Parking there is so so as you know there are a few bars and clubs around that area so try to get here early. I would definitely love to come back and check it out again.
