by Rudy M. on I was invited to Lavo on Friday, January 14th, 2011 by a friend and after being there for over 2 hours I was approached by security and told they have a no sunglasses policy andI had to explain wayyyyy too many times that my eyeglasses for vision were NOT sunglasses (don't bother going). I've never heard of discrimination against people who wears glasses. Hmmmm was it about the glasses?
by Bleep s. on The place is gorgeous, the food divine. Started out with "Poke" Trio big eye tuna, salmon & hamachi, chili, sesame ginger soy, yuzu avocado cream ( beyond wonderful...I would order this on every visit) and Sake-Steamed Manila Clams black trumpet mushrooms; ginger red miso broth..the broth so delicious that we asked to keep it on the table even after the clams were gone. Next: Ocean Salad fuji apple, blood orange, shiso; citrus san baizu vinaigrette...bursting with flavor..honestly...flavor explosion. Mains: Gindara Black Cod 6oz. grilled and served with mushroom soy broth...Probably the best black cod I've ever had...right up there with Thanh Long. and.... Buri Kama 10oz. smoked roasted hamachi collar with sea salt, daikon-seaweed tsuyu broth. Tasted like it had just been plucked from the sea and very rich. The rice is perfection... After dinner, we ambled into the club. Your server reserves a seat for you when you buy your tickets online. Eddie Palmieri was lively and fun...the "Limon" cocktail made an excellent dessert. I usually don't indulge in cocktails, but this was tangy tastiness and made me want to get up and shake it....you can't sit still when Eddie and his band are up there. In the mood for a magical evening?...Yoshi restaurant for dinner followed by the Jazz Club.
by Richie Imbimbo on Your perfect dive bar. Seriously cheap drinks, friendly bartenders. The patio in the back is sweet, and isn't even ruined by the rain, since there is a decent sized deck with an awning. You still have to pay cover for the shows they put on in the back room, so check the calendar. Wasn't disappointed in making it my birthday party final gathering point, and luckily I was in the mood for classic rock. The place was pretty empty at 10, but the stage section managed to be filled up in time for the Led Zeppelin cover band. (Who goes to bars to meet people?) The very next day I sported ridiculously tight pants, having been inspired by Robert Plant.
