by karen b. on looking to cheat on your significant other? do it here! the cozy, intimate atmosphere oozes romance, and the very, very, very dim lighting will likely prevent you from being noticed ... but if you're single, beware. strong drinks combined with a near-dark room could lead to hookups that you might regret tomorrow. the darkness seems like it would be a dangerous ingredient for those already prone to beer goggles. i'm neither single nor unfaithful, but i still think RR kind of rules. the environment really does make you feel like you've left philadelphia for some swanky, mysterious land. the cocktails are fantastic, if a bit pricey (many are served with an ice cube ... er, brick ... that's the size and length of a stick of butter and takes up three-quarters of a glass). still, the vibe is great and it's a nice alternative to the general pub scene when you're looking for something a little schmancier. even the non-alcoholic drinks are terrific ... try the homemade ginger ale, which is amazing on its own and puts schweppes and canada dry to shame.
by Arnab M. on They lose a star for the incessant, pervasive and apparently normal smoking indoors, it's was a little suffocating at times. Apart from that and that this place was a hot and humid as hell, it totally ROCKED! It reminded me of clubs in Barcelona, which is a HUGE compliment to any American club. I love that there is no cover, but the drinks a little over the top when it comes to price, so I prepared in advance by having a few before I got there. The line was nuts, it went around the intersection of 16th and 9th and then all the way around 17th and 9th... Luckily, I saw a friend of mine in line, which saved us about 30 minutes, but I take it that the line is this crazy on Sunday nights only on a long, holiday weekend. The DJ was great, I loved that there was no hip hop, and mainly house mixes, PERFECT. The crowd was the most diverse I've ever seen at any bar/lounge/club in NYC or the US for that matter, which is always great to see. Much fun, I will surely be there again! Oh, and though Sundays is gay night, Wendy S. still managed to make out with an apparently straight and not-so-sketchy man who wanted to take her home... Kudos. [She didn't actually go home with him, in case you are curious.]

When a group of friends checked out this place while I was out of town, my sociology masters friend laughed and threw up his hands "That place was fucking fantastic!" The guy friends just turned away, silent. The females looked at me with laser like intensity and went "oooohhh...god...no" while shaking their heads. I was hooked. My opportunity to drag a friend who had not been to it last time came up with a friend's birthday celebration happening. At Caseys, everyone asked what my plans were and I proudly proclaimed Cherry Pit, baby! The typical response was taken aback with "that new place with the fucking VELVET ROPE on MILL?". YEAH BABY. We arrived around 12:45am, got ushered in by the Matrix agents for VIP. I was overwhelmed once we walked up the stairs...was I an extra for the movie Less Than Zero? Robert Downy Jr,...is that YOU?!? We first wandered to the right which has a sloping walkway opening up to a massive dance floor packed with people sucking face and staring at the muppet boot dancers. Where is Eric Nies? Is this the MTV Grind try outs, 1992? We walked up to the top of the walkway with round booths VIP but it wasnt the right ones. So we went back around the Bosch scene into the smaller, more intimate room to the left of the entrance. We found our friends in a side room with a muppet booth fembot writhing. We had our own waitress who was fast and really friendly. G&T for like 3 something in a PINT glass? No wonder everyone was sprawled all over the couches, half asleep by the time we arrived. We got some liquid courage and hit Hades aka the large floor. Getting another drink special for 3 bucks, we freaked out to top 40 hip hop...that werent even FULL songs...it would be like 2 minutes of a song hook then awkwardly bleep into the song. I felt like I was in a nature documentary on modern mating rituals among the smoke and lights and striped button down shirts and sequin halter tops. AMAZING. Who gives a shit about the huge posters of a naked torso with a cherry pie slice over her hoo-hah? It adds to it, baby. I may be lactose intolerant, but this kind of cheese? I'm eatin it up baby, and I'll be back for seconds.
