by Erik G. on Medjool? More like MedTool. Sure they have an awesome rooftop deck where you can sit and take in a nice day - but that same deck will be filled up with some of the biggest tools and dusche bags the Mission has to offer. When I was there I seriously wanted to ask if there was a Jersey Shore costume party going on. The drinks were a fail. Not a big selection, and if you tried to deviate from the menu at all, you get a big thumbs down and get told no. The food menu on the roof is also very limited - and again don't try and deviate from it. What kind of made me mad, being allergic to shellfish, were my very limited options. I got some hummus, being it was my only option - but even that came out of a can. Really? I ended up getting some hummus and a pitcher of water, but no cup to put it in. Awesome. So after being there for about 45 minutes we left to hit up Docs Clock across the street. If Medjool wants to be taken seriously, they need to move into SoMa or something, or change their atmosphere. Come on guys, you're in the Mission. Get a clue.
by CadoBaby P. on reggae gold! the night to go if you like dancing, sweating and being squashed between bodies.. A great girls night out experience.. make sure you use the ladies room before 2 am...this place gets SLAMMED after last call (130 am)... the DJs keep the bodies movin till 6 am.. !!
by Olive Borkholder on if you are a beat-head you'll be in heaven here. Wonderful sound and lighting system, if i was wasted the lights would seriously 'eff me up. Huge dancefloor and early in the night the dancers are pretty friendly. Jenn L. is not a beat head, i can do the house/dance/electronica for about an hour and then it's time to move on to something new. I was impressed however, with the variety of club goers. I was not impressed with the guy who felt the need to invade my personal space while staring unabashedly at my 'ttocks. he was right creepy. There's a lot i feel Avalon could improve on, the attitudes of the bouncers, their expensive-azz cover charge (the people who paid $35 each, you were seriously jacked), teeny-tiny drinks (in a PLASTIC CUP. ugh. wtf is wrong with serving in a GLASS!!!!!!) and teach your bartenders to not tip themselves when giving you back your change. FYI parking is 'eff'ing expensive too. you'd think all this would weed out the average pootang chasers looking only to score but nay, nay. Pootie chasers apparently have money. Conclusion: AWESOME sound and lighting (if i was basing it on that alone, 5 stars), cool patio upstairs, but its too expensive for the less than stellar time i had here.
