by Kim S. on Wow, just stepped across the street for lunch at Sugar Cafe, and had the $10 lunch box... fantastic experience - service was great, and the food was just exactly what I wanted... tuna salad sandwich on toasty dark bread, a salad with poppy dressing, and a brownie which was sublime... really great!
by Ranj V. on Food: Let me get straight to the food before the 'experience'. If you are vegetarian, skip the combo plate and just order the injera with mushrooms - they are exceptional. The lentils were bland and the greens were so-so. The potatoes and carrots didn't tickle my palate either. The honey wine was yummy so it paired nicely with the spicy mushrooms. All you can eat on the combos before 8pm (I remember), so go ahead splurge on the variety in the combo if the unlimited option appeals to you. Experience: On a wednesday evening it was bustling, almost bursting with activity. Why this restaurant fails to plan for such an influx of customers fails me! As part of a one woman show, the owner (assumption) seated us, took orders, brought the food, cleared the table and brought the check. It would be ok if it were just us and a few other people. But there was us.... and a gazillion others. Therefore the food was quite delayed - it was 50 minutes before the combos came out! My hunger and impatience was spilling in obvious ways..so it definitely helped that I was dining with a charming, witty trader, who constantly helped me find my zen and my funny bone! The dim lights and the bar scene was quaint. The inside room decor is nothing to write home about...overall definitely worth a few visits for the vegetarian until you get fed up of the mushrooms. PS - Give yourself 10 mins to park in this area.
by Anthony Vahena on Great scene-- fantastic decor. A buddy and I checked this place out on a Monday night. Drinks were fair, bar food was pretty good [we ordered the Angus sliders and the hot wings]. Good crowd, good vibe. Band was not that great-- drummer was working way too hard and loud, but still a nice setting. I will come back to check out the "live nude jazz."
