As a singer and musician, many would think and assume that I like to do karaoke and/or sing in front of a large group at a bar. They assume wrong. It's not that I don't like to sing and perform...I do. But there's a stigma attached to people who actually can sing from others in that they believe they're going to be amazing. And maybe to some I am, but karaoke is not my forte. That being said, it's a different ballgame at Martuni's. They've actually got a piano player who can play various songs, change keys for you...they're amazing. Last night was my birthday party and it was the second time I had been to Martuni's. One thing to note is that this place gets PACKED on weekends. There's no one at the door really monitoring the number of people coming in and out, so be prepared for crowds if you go on a weekend. That being said, the bartenders are so professional that despite the crowds and amount of people, drinks are delivered in a timely manner and they have a smile doing it! The martini's here are well priced, diverse and strong. They have a full bar and a martini menu with about 15-20 different choices. My favorite was the raspberry lemondrop. The crowd is crazy and fun (you are in the Castro, after all) and the talent of singing is MUCH better than your average karaoke bar. Serious folks, some amazing talent sings here. Despite that, even if you're not to their level, everyone cheers you on just as much and sings along with you. If you are interested in a great party with good drinks, good music and fun people, definitely check out Martuni's. Without a doubt one of the most interesting bars in SF!

In one word: Amazing. What a fabulous overall experience from start to finish!! Totally worth the money spent! I cant talk enough about the service and the food....you got to go and try it!! And they actually took extra care of me when i said i was a vegetarian. I was given so many options for each course. Superb! We had the following: (nothing was disappointing) Drinks: Morimoto martini.. Japanese pineapple (non alcoholic....was great!) Mandarin ginger (non alcoholic) Couple of glasses of wine... Starters: Morimoto Sashimi Yosedofu (made vegetarian...and made at the table...wow!). Main course: One was a whole fish (sorry..forgot which one). I had the Ishi Yaki Bop...was made vegetarian for me, and also made at the table!). Dessert: Yuzu Meringue tart Vegan chocolate ice cream. I really loved the ishi yaki bop.....its been by far the best dish I have eaten anywhere in a while.

I've never been one of the Sex and the City girls, just a disclaimer so you know who you are dealing with. Overall impression - they are trying too hard. Pretentious, overpriced, snobby, and insanely loud. We came there at early dinner time (5ish), and brought the kid with us. They had the high chairs, but they were the snobby kind - Stokke. We have Stokke at home, and I love it, but it needs a rail or a strap to put a child in. They didn't have the rail or a strap. So they spent 170 bucks on a chair that was useless. Tells me that they tried to impress, but didn't put that much thought into it. I thought the interior was pretty interesting. I felt very uncomfortable there, and the cool club ambiance didn't excite me. I felt I didn't belong. I feel the servers were arrogant without any good reason - service was slow. The food was OK, even though I don't even remember now what I ordered. I just remember it was OK. And then of course the muzak started. Oh, man. I think I still have light buzzing in my ears.
