It's more of a 4.5 really, so keep that in mind. I've been here twice now, and it's a good time to be had. The food is very solid, with seriously killer biscuits, calamari that actually has a little more to it (a little fried okra never hurt nobody!), fried mac and cheese, and I've had their chicken salad and their catfish. I am rather partial to catfish on the whole. It's the kind of place where you can lean back and listen, but you're still bopping along, or you can get up and dance if the spirit moves you. I'm pretty sure at some point it will move you. The musicians who come through a really good, and the waitstaff somehow just magically appears with your food and drinks, and you don't even notice it arrives. If you want something different, try it...I think you'll like it.

I will only come here if someone else is paying. And I'm on the guestlist. And no one talks to me. I've been to a few shows here, and once on a Thursday night for their big dance event. The sound at the shows has been verging on horrific, and the crowd at the dance event was...repulsive? Is that too harsh? Drinks are SERIOUSLY RIDICULOUS and if you're not looking your finest the bartenders will completely ignore you. Or if, for example, you are there for a CMJ showcase, they will ignore EVERYONE. Long story short, I hate this place. Two stars though, because it's really pretty and if I get in free and drink for free I have a tolerable enough time.

I probably would never have tried this bar, if it hadn't been to meet up for Happy Hour with a group of westside rateclubsers. Ivana I. and James B. decided to join me, so we schlepped across town on a hump day.....not only to socialize, but to try SF Saloon's famous burgers. They say "take two bucks off any burger", so I did and ordered the Hickory Bacon Cheeseburger with fries. Very tasty! Slurped down a few Bass Ales, smiled for the camera a couple of times, and totally enjoyed meeting some new people!! Would I go back? Depends..(and I'm not describing my sexy underwear). If a smaller group was meeting.. probably. Get a lot of people at a long table and you can only hear the people on either side of you. The place was loud..after all, it is a sportsy-type bar. Perfect if your testosterone is raging, you love football and basketball, you wear your baseball cap ass backwards, and you grunt a lot. I personally prefer a quieter place to chit-chat. A place where everyone at the table can be in the same conversation. But...hey! I'm really not complaining. The food was good, it was fun meeting everyone, and it did get me out of the Marina one more time. That's huge. :)
