I get dragged to midtown every six months or so by a "friend". Each time I ask myself why did I let this happen, and how is this person my friend? Cosmo/Lava is good for bachlorette parties and guys that want to hit on bachlorette parties. Other than that, it is pretty useless.

I didn't have high expectations when I came here. A friend went on and on about how this was a nasty 'ol dive bar full of guys with long dirty ponytails. Ummm...let's just say this was not the case, at all. I found O'Terrill's to have an interesting mix of people (can't recall one dirty ponytail) and the bar is what it is...its not a trendy nightclub, nor does it claim to be. Service at the table was not great, but our server tried. He continued to smile and be pleasant, despite the fact that he had too many people sitting in his station. I felt bad for the guy and chose to order my drinks from the bar, where I was served immediately. I only had the homemade potato chips, which were good, but others ordered meals that looked quite delicious and not like your ordinary pub food. Overall, I would say it is a good option, if you are looking for a mellow place to have a casual night.

The place where it's always packed, but I always manage to find a seat, and the waiters are always nice to the 'locals'. There's the dinner crowd, then the trivia crowd, then the late night MJQ pregame crowd, then finally the close out crowd. The waves of people coming through here every night are about as varied as it gets in this city. It's where the ultra-hipsters come to mingle, and brush elbows with the overflow crowd from the Cleremont or the Highlands. Wednesday night is the big danceparty night at MJQ so The Local is just as crowded, if not more so. I'd tell you to come that night, but I don't want you to steal my seat ;)
