Went here for a friend's birthday party last night. We arrived shortly after midnight on a Saturday night, and I was shocked to see that the only people there were with our party. It worked out well for us, since there were about 30 of us and the space was not huge, so we had free reign and it wasn't obnoxiously crowded. I'd recommend hosting a party here for that reason, but I would be very hesitant to return in a random small group. Much love for $5 beers in the East Village though. Also, the music was pretty fun to dance to, and I liked the round booths (may or may not have been several make-out sessions going on there by the end of the night).

Classy Mexican. Seriously, the food is authentic, and the drinks are inventive. We're talking a margarita list a mile long, the most expensive being $60 I think - no kidding. But the real draw here is the decor. The dining room is seperated from the bar and lounge areas by a wall. But as the name implies, the whole interior is like a velvet painting - of which there are dozens along the walls. The black ceiling is covered in mariachi hats. The bar is a work of art itself with a fiery silver design and old mexican movies projected above. Add some mechanical dancing marionettes, and its impossible not to have fun just being there. What's more, there's an outdoor patio for smokers or anyone looking for a change of scenery. I've been here several times and always had a good time. Might be a little pricey if you're looking for cheap margaritas, but its great for a night out.
